RANGE ROLLS IN FIRST GAME IN GRAND STRAND

MYRTLE BEACH, SC- In a commanding performance, the South Range Raiders outplayed the University Hawks with a resounding 12-0 victory on Monday. Anna Aey showcased her talent at the plate, delivering three hits in four at-bats. Her standout performance included a double in the second inning, followed by singles in the first and fifth innings.

The Raiders wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Gretchen Bartels igniting the scoreboard in the first inning, driving in two runs with a timely single. Building on their early lead, South Range struck again in the second inning, as Solena DeJesus and Keira Brogan contributed to the offensive onslaught, setting the stage for Aey’s double and Jayli Wilt’s run-scoring fielder’s choice.

In the circle, Wilt dazzled, earning the win for the Raiders. The right-handed pitcher held the Hawks to just one hit over five innings, fanning nine batters while issuing only three walks. Maddie Campbell took the loss for the Hawks, enduring a challenging outing, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits in two innings of work.

Fueling South Range’s offensive juggernaut were DeJesus and Wilt, each delivering multiple hits. The Raiders displayed discipline at the plate, drawing five walks throughout the game, with Addison Wardle and Heidi Bartels leading the charge with two each. In the field, the Raiders were flawless, committing zero errors, with Bartels showcasing defensive prowess with seven notable plays.

Campbell provided a lone bright spot for the Hawks, securing a hit in two at-bats. However, it wasn’t enough to thwart the Raiders’ dominance on the diamond.

The Lady Raiders (3-0)will be back in action tomorrow at noon against South Florence, the game will once again be broadcast on YSN.

 

SOUTH RANGE STEADY OFFENSE KEEPS THE PRESSURE ON

CANFIELD OH- Jayli Wilt was dominant in the circle, as the starting pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in South Range’s 13-3 victory over Jefferson Area on Wednesday. Wilt surrendered four hits and three runs over five innings while walking two.

Jefferson Area opened the scoring in the first after an error scored one run.

Anna Aey hit a sacrifice fly, which helped South Range  tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. The Raiders jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Ashley Rupert doubled,, and Solena DeJesus doubled, each scoring one run.

South Range then added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Jefferson committed an error, Giada Pauline laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Heidi Bartels singled, each scoring one run.

Three more Raiders runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 10-3. Aey hit a solo home run to center field, Rupert singled, scoring one run, and Pauline doubled, scoring one run.

Olivia Lewis took the loss for Jefferson Area. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, surrendering 13 runs (eight earned) on 14 hits, striking out none and walking one.

South Range amassed 14 hits in the game. Gretchen Bartels, Aey, Keira Brogan, DeJesus, and Rupert each collected two hits. Rupert led with three runs batted in. She went 2-for-3 on the day.

Allison Hill, Kennidie Rogers, Rylee DeMattia, and Gabby Barress each collected one hit for Jefferson. DeMattia led with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-1 on the day.

LADY RAIDERS GET IT RIGHT FROM THR RIP

CANFIELD, OH- In an opening day showdown on Monday, the South Range Lady Raiders showcased their prowess on the softball diamond, clinching a resounding 10-0 victory over NE8 foe Girard in just five innings, enforced by the mercy rule.

Leading the charge was pitching sensation Jayli Wilt, who delivered a n0-hit performance, striking out an astounding 12 batters while conceding zero hits and runs over five innings, with just three walks.

The Raiders seized control early, but it was in the explosive fifth inning where they truly asserted their dominance, tallying six runs to solidify their lead. Ashley Rupert, Heidi Bartels, Kiera Winner, Solena DeJesus, and Keira Brogan all contributed crucial hits and RBIs during this pivotal inning.

South Range Varsity Raiders opened the scoring in the second inning following errors from Girard, with Addison Wardle also crossing the plate after being struck by a pitch.

In the circle for Girard, B. Broll, who endured four and one-third innings and conceding 10 runs, nine of which were earned, on 11 hits, while striking out one and walking four.

Offensively, South Range displayed depth and consistency, amassing 11 hits throughout the game. Standouts included Gretchen Bartels, Ashley Rupert, and Giada Pauline, each contributing two hits to the cause. Meanwhile, Brogan, DeJesus, and Bartels showcased their clutch-hitting abilities, each driving in two runs.

Defensively, South Range remained flawless, committing no errors throughout the game, with Bartels demonstrating her defensive prowess with 13 chances in the field.

With this commanding win under their belts, South Range Varsity Raiders eagerly anticipate their next challenge as they hit the road to face Girard once again on Tuesday.

 

SOUTH RANGE SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JEFF DEROSE

CANFIELD OH- After another trip to Firestone Stadium last season for South Range, they are locked in to start another season.  The trip to state was the program’s 3rd since 2016.  The Raiders have never missed a beat in pitching over the seasons, having a college level arm in the circle since 2010.  Now it’s a new generation’s turn to continue that tradition and keep this program in the right direction.  Although last year’s senior class was crucial to their tournament run, they still had plenty of young players step up in the biggest moments.  They’ll lean on that experience to guide the players that are stepping into bigger roles on the team.

Raiders head coach Jeff DeRose has had plenty to celebrate in his career at South Range, and he’s hoping this year just adds more.  He took time out his day to chat with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig about the upcoming season.  They discuss what it’ll take to get back to Firestone Stadium, what fans should expect in the circle, and much more. SALEM OH- In a fiercely contested matchup, South Range showcased their determination and resilience as they powered past Perry with a gritty 58-49 victory, earning themselves a spot in the district championship game. With their sights set on redemption and a shot at glory, the Raiders left everything on the court, refusing to let their opponents stand in their way.

Leading the charge for South Range was Landon Moore, whose stellar performance saw him tally an impressive 24 points, setting the tone for his team’s offensive onslaught. Dylan Turvey contributed 9 points, while Luke Rohan and Nate Lewis each chipped in with 8 points, highlighting the Raiders’ balanced scoring attack.

LADY RAIDERS STAND STRONG AGAINST VASJ

CANFIELD, OH- Not many saw South Range as one of the last teams standing in the area when the season began, except those in the Raider Lockerroom.  However, the South Range Lady Raiders soared to a resounding 57-37 victory over the Villa Angela St. Joseph Vikings, clinching the sectional championship in style. With an impressive team effort, the Lady Raiders showcased their depth and talent on the court, setting the stage for an exciting journey ahead.

Led by a quartet of players with double-digit scoring performances, South Range left no doubt about their prowess on the basketball court. Devin Sauerwein led the charge with 15 points, while Gwen Lowry and Sydney Penick each contributed 11 points, demonstrating their offensive versatility and ability to deliver when it matters most. Madison Dado added 10 points to the scoreboard, further solidifying the team’s dominant performance.

The Lady Raiders’ balanced attack and unrelenting intensity on both ends of the court propelled them to victory, leaving the Vikings struggling to keep pace throughout the game. Taylor Dado chipped in with 8 points, while Ceci Foster added 2, highlighting the team’s collective effort and cohesive play.

With the sectional championship secured, South Range now sets its sights on the next challenge as they prepare to face off against the 11th-seeded Smithville in the upcoming showdown in Wooster. MOORE NOW SECOND ON THE SOUTH RANGE SCORING LIST

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- In a highly anticipated matchup filled with hometown pride and intense rivalry, the South Range High School basketball team squared off against Springfield on Tuesday night. With the coaching staff hailing from Springfield, the game carried added significance for both teams. In the end, it was South Range who emerged victorious, storming to a commanding 66-41 win over their rivals.

From the opening tip-off, it was clear that South Range was determined to assert their dominance on the court. Fueled by the energy of the rivalry and the support of their fans, the Raiders came out firing on all cylinders, overwhelming Springfield with their relentless attack.

Leading the charge for South Range was Landon Moore, whose outstanding performance saw him tally 19 points and move to second on the South Range career scoring list. Moore’s scoring prowess and leadership were on full display, inspiring his teammates to elevate their game to new heights.

Supporting Moore’s offensive onslaught was Dylan Turvey, who contributed 15 points, and Luke Rohan, who added 14 points to bolster South Range’s scoring effort. Tristan Toy chipped in 7 points to further solidify the Raiders’ dominance.

Despite Springfield’s efforts to mount a comeback, they were unable to contain South Range’s relentless pressure. Dylan Sheely led Springfield’s scoring effort with 9 points, while Sean Guerriero and Chris Cunningham added 8 points each. Drew Miller contributed 7 points in a valiant but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to rally his team.

With this statement win, South Range improves their record to 15-6 as they prepare for their regular season finale against Salem on Thursday. Meanwhile, Springfield, with a record of 16-5, shifts their focus to tournament play, where they will host Open Door Christian in their first tournament game on February 27th.

RAIDERS END NE8 PLAY WITH A BANG

CANFIELD OH- After a prolonged wait due to rescheduling, South Range finally squared off against Struthers on Saturday in a crucial league matchup. The Raiders wasted no time asserting their dominance on the court, ultimately clinching a hard-fought 55-43 win to cap off their conference schedule on a high note.

Leading the charge for South Range was Landon Moore, whose impressive performance saw him light up the scoreboard with a game-high 24 points. With this remarkable showing, Moore finds himself just 13 points away from claiming the number 2 spot on the all-time scoring list at South Range, a testament to his remarkable talent and dedication to the game.

Supporting Moore’s offensive onslaught was Nate Lewis, who contributed 11 points, and Dylan Turvey, who added 8 points to bolster South Range’s scoring effort.

On the opposing side, Struthers put up a valiant fight, with Jason Dukes leading the charge with 20 points, followed by Lucas Patti with 11 points. Despite their efforts, Struthers ultimately fell short against a determined South Range squad.

MOORE’S 1000TH POINT LIFTS SOUTH RANGE

LOWELLVILLE OH- In a thrilling matchup that will be remembered for years to come, South Range celebrated a significant milestone as senior standout Landon Moore notched his 1000th career point in the Raiders’ impressive 66-53 victory over Lowellville. It was a night filled with excitement and emotion as Moore etched his name into the annals of South Range basketball history.

Leading the scoring charge for South Range was none other than Moore himself, who delivered a stellar performance with a game-high 24 points. Joining Moore in the offensive onslaught were Luke Rohan, Dylan Turvey, and Triston Toy, who each contributed 12 points to bolster the Raiders’ scoring effort.

Despite a valiant effort from Lowellville, led by Michael Ballone with 12 points, Matt Lucido with 10 points, Drew Modelski with 10 points, and Josh Pazel with 9 points, they couldn’t contain South Range’s potent offense.
