SOUTH RANGE STEADY OFFENSE KEEPS THE PRESSURE ON

CANFIELD OH- Jayli Wilt was dominant in the circle, as the starting pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in South Range’s 13-3 victory over Jefferson Area on Wednesday. Wilt surrendered four hits and three runs over five innings while walking two.

Jefferson Area opened the scoring in the first after an error scored one run.

Anna Aey hit a sacrifice fly, which helped South Range  tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. The Raiders jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Ashley Rupert doubled,, and Solena DeJesus doubled, each scoring one run.

South Range then added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Jefferson committed an error, Giada Pauline laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Heidi Bartels singled, each scoring one run.

Three more Raiders runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 10-3. Aey hit a solo home run to center field, Rupert singled, scoring one run, and Pauline doubled, scoring one run.

Olivia Lewis took the loss for Jefferson Area. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, surrendering 13 runs (eight earned) on 14 hits, striking out none and walking one.

South Range amassed 14 hits in the game. Gretchen Bartels, Aey, Keira Brogan, DeJesus, and Rupert each collected two hits. Rupert led with three runs batted in. She went 2-for-3 on the day.

Allison Hill, Kennidie Rogers, Rylee DeMattia, and Gabby Barress each collected one hit for Jefferson. DeMattia led with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-1 on the day.
