WEST BRANCH MAKES QUICK WORK OF QUAKERS

BELOIT OH- The age-old rivalry between The Salem Quakers and The West Branch Warriors has found a home inside of The Eastern Buckeye Conference (EBC) in recent years. One thing is for certain, no matter the sport, the record or the year, when it is Salem vs. West Branch, heads turn.

This edition of the rivalry occurred on the hardwood on Tuesday night, where The Quakers made the trip to The Village of Beloit. West Branch wasted little time in jumping on Salem in Set 1. With the combined efforts of Mikalyn Fitts, Adele Peters and Big Dog Brunner (Claire Brunner) The Warriors set the tone with big runs and not allowing The Quakers offense to get any sort of traction. Winning Set 1 in dominating fashion, by a total of 16 points, allowing West Branch to take an early set lead in the match.

More fight was to be had from Salem in Set 2, staying scrappy and hanging in there with a tough Warriors squad. However, some unfortunate times errors pumped the brakes on The Quakes, allowing West Branch to seal the Set 2 victory and take a commanding lead in the match. By Set 3 The Warriors were just riding a wave of momentum, drawing back to the first set by going on more big scoring runs and capitalizing on Salem’s mistakes. Taking the match victory in straight sets, West Branch earned their fourth victory in The EBC Tuesday night.

Riding off the win, West Branch (9-2) will now hit the road to do an inter-conference battle with The Minerva Lions (2-9) on Wednesday, September 14th. As for The Quakers (2-6) they will head to the hangar in a conference matchup with The Alliance Aviators (3-7) on Thursday, September 15th.
