POLAND, OH – Head coach Pat Carden and the Poland Bulldogs boys golf team are hitting their stride on the course as they have been posting scores that are rivaling some of the best scores in school history. Coming off a great display in their last match at Mahoning Country Club against Girard, the boys look to keep that rolling this week against Wilmington on Monday, Hubbard on Tuesday, and Niles on Thursday.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Coach Carden at Combine Brothers this week to talk about the season so far, who has really stuck out this year for the Bulldogs, what it takes on a daily basis to coach a golf team, and so much more!

POLAND, OH – Coming off back to back victories to start the 2023 season, head coach Tom Pavlansky and the Poland Bulldogs are looking to keep that momentum going as they will start to hit midseason form in all aspects of the season. Last week, the Dogs traveled up to Howland and came away with a convincing 41-0 victory, this week they will stay home for their home opener and take on a 1-1 Firelands team in what could be another solid outing for Poland.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Coach Pav at Combine Brothers to talk about the big week two victory, what he took away from the film and how he will plan on using those takeaways in practice to get ready for week three, and what Coach’s keys to the game are for a big week three match up at home.

ARCHBISHOP HOBAN KNIGHTS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 2) WITH TIM TYRRELL

AKRON, OH – The Archbishop Hoban Knights (2-0) football team is already playing at midseason form as head coach Tim Tyrrell looks to continue dominating all aspects of football games from week to week. The Knights traveled up to Erie last week to take on a tough Erie Cathedral Prep squad and after trailing 13-12 at the half, the Knights ripped off 32 straight points en route to a 44-13 victory. Up next for Archbishop Hoban is the home opener against back to back Virginia state champions, Trinity Episcopal.

YSN’s own Steve Leslie had the opportunity to catch up with Coach Tyrrell this week via Streamyard to talk about what transpired in that second half last week to watch the Knights pull away, what his thoughts are for this week’s tough match up with another out of state foe, what Coach Tyrrell wants to see his squad do this week to challenge themselves and their opponent, and what his keys to the game are this week as they are going up against a very talented team coming off back to back Virginia state championship wins.

GARFIELD GIRLS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH AARON GILBERT

GARRETTSVILLE OH- Don’t adjust your screen, even though we are talking with Aaron Gilbert, it is not basketball season. Coach Gilbert coaches more than just girls basketball at Garfield, he’s also the head coach of the Girls Soccer team. It wasn’t a job he expected to last for seven seasons, but it seems everywhere he goes success follows. What started as just a way to make sure the student athletes have the experience they deserve from a sport turned into a program that has had plenty of success.  This season, Garfield is as athletic as anybody, but they are a young group.  Coach Gilbert’s ability to develop players over the course of a a season will be put to the test.

Coach Gilbert took the time to talk with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig about the current season they are in.  They discuss why experiences in high school athletics is so important, what Garfield is capable of this season, and so much more.

URSULINE VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH NATE ZUNIC

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Ursuline volleyball is off to a hot start in 2023. There’s no question why, they are loaded with talent.  They have the energy and belief that they can be a serious problem for teams on their schedule.  The crazy thing is, there is no one talking about Ursuline as a powerhouse. In preseason volleyball discussions they have been the definition of under the radar.  Well, it’s time to start putting the Irish on your map. They have started the year at 4-0.  Their head coach is someone who believes in everything the program can be. Nate Zunic fully understands what putting Ursuline on the shirt means. It brings a legacy. It brings a tradition that you have to hold up. He makes his players do just that, and here they are staring down the chance of a program defining season.

Coach Zunic took the time to come talk with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to discuss the season, and what the Irish are looking forward to.
