SALEM, OH – I caught up with Salem head football coach Ron Johnson as he and the Quakers prepare themselves for the 2023 season opener against Poland. Coach Johnson talked about the summer program and the build up to kickoff, as well as all the many new faces this season and how they look to adopt their “next man up” mentality moving forward through out the year.

AKRON, OH – Head coach Tim Tyrrell is at the helm of one of the most prestigious high school football programs in the state of Ohio, the Archbishop Hoban Knights. The Knights are coming off a 14-2 record and a state championship runner up last season and only look to get better this season! Coach Tyrrell has had a busy off season this year as he looks to keep that winning tradition and repeat back to the state title game, this time looking for a victory. This season Coach Tyrrell and the Knights will open up in a very special game as they will play Lexington Frederick at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio this Saturday at 4pm!

CAMPBELL, OH – Head coach Andrew King is back for year three at forefront of this Campbell Memorial Red Devils football program that has been turning heads this summer as they look to improve off of a successful campaign last year in 2022. CANFIELD, OH-In the heart of Ohio, where the echoes of victory still reverberated through the fields, David Rach begins an exhilarating journey as the new head coach for the South Range Raiders’ football team. Fresh off a remarkable state championship win in Ohio’s division V, the Raiders were a force to be reckoned with. As Rach stepped onto the practice field for the first time as head coach, he surely couldn’t help but feel the weight of the legacy left by his mentor and predecessor, Dan Yeagley. A man whose name had become synonymous with football greatness in the community, Yeagley had guided the Raiders to over 200 victories, and Rach had been privileged to witness the magic unfold firsthand for over a decade, both as a player and as a member of the coaching staff.
With boundless determination, Rach endeavored to carry on the tradition of excellence that Coach Yeagley had instilled in the team. As the new season kicks off, the South Range Raiders find themselves facing formidable opponents week after week.
In the end, the South Range Raiders won’t just play for themselves, but for the honor of their storied past and the dreams of their community. With David Rach at the helm, they will embark on a remarkable journey, aiming to etch their own chapter into the annals of football history, while paying homage to the legend whose teachings had paved their way.

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – Head coach Sean Guerriero is back for his 17th season of coaching football as he is at the helm the Springfield Tigers football program and they are coming off a successful season last year in 2022. Coach G has been busy this off season getting the Tigers ready to take on the defending state champions as South Range will be coming to Springfield for week one as the Tigers will also open up their new turf field!

LIBERTY OH- Liberty volleyball definitely put themselves on the map last season. They blew people’s expectations out of the water and competed strong against everyone. Liberty returns reigning YSN Big Dog of the Year Lexi Muck who will solidify their middle block. Her and her fellows seniors are going to make sure you know who you’re dealing with when Liberty walks in the gym. Kelly Barley is back for another season as the head coach of the Leopards. She brings a strong volleyball mind, and a competitive instinct that trickles into every one of her players.

BERLIN CENTER OH- The quest for a championship is a long road. For Western Reserve Volleyball it all starts in the summer. The Blue Devils have a MVAC trophy in their sights. It wouldn’t be any small feat either. The MVAC Scarlett Tier is one of the most highly contested conferences in the YSN family. You could make four solid cases for a team to end the season at the top. Western Reserve is going to work to their limits every day to try to be that team. Head coach Krisie Hughes sets that standard. We’ll know a lot about the Blue Devils from the jump as their second game of the year will be against reigning MVAC champions Mineral Ridge.

WARREN OH- One thing that has become certain over the years of YSN covering high school sports, you never under look Warren JFK. The community has a real skill of producing great athletes, and even better leaders. For their volleyball team this year there are plenty of opportunities for new leaders to step up and put their name in the lights. The Eagles are returning just one varsity player from a year ago, so fresh faces won’t be hard to find. Don’t let that fool you though, the Eagles have spent all summer learning how to work as a unit. A United volleyball team is always hard to beat. Head coach Sam Young is taking the challenge head on as he returns to the helm of the program.

COLUMBIANA OH- Are you starting to feel the excitement in the air? It’s because volleyball is getting closer by the day. The area is riddled with fantastic talent across the board. Columbiana is one of those programs that has managed to consistently stack winning programs year to year. This season the Clippers have a stockpile of athletes returning with experience under their belt. They want to be the name written at the top of the EOAC when it’s all said and done. The quest to end at the top of the conference starts soon and head coach Jennifer Martin is putting her hands on the reigns to steer the Clippers to greatness.

CANFIELD OH- As the clock winds down on the month of August, the clock starts on soccer season in the valley. The sport is continuing on its upward trajectory and teams like Canfield are proving it. The numbers that are in Canfield’s program would make any coach beyond happy. Everyone wants to be a part of this Cardinals team. A surplus of players is a great problem for head coach Mike Bailey to have. His team this season will be unbelievably versatile as he can put people in different spots at different times. In a tough AAC conference, that will come in handy. Canfield is on a path for greatness, and you may not want to get in their way.
