SOUTH RANGE GIRKS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH JEFF FISHEL

CANFIELD OH- Jeff Fishel has officially begun his fourth season as the head coach of South Range girls basketball. Fourth years are always exciting to see how the players have developed over their entire high school career. This season has started much like last season. The Raiders scheduled two very tough opponents to open the gates. Edgewood and Boardman both handled South Range and put them in a position where hitting the panic button wouldve been easy.  But that’s not how this program operates.  Last they started 0-2, and still went on to be one win away from an NE8 championship.  They didn’t let the start phase them this year either. After their opening losses, the Raiders took care of their first two league opponents in Hubbard and Jefferson. Now it sets up the game that has decided the conference every year, the match up with Poland.  Poland vs South Range round 1 of this season is set for Thursday at 7:00.

Coach Fishel took the time to catch up with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about bouncing back from the tough start, his confidence in this group of players, and much more. Get ready for the week ahead with Episode 2 of Coach’s Corner with Jeff Fishel.

GARRETTSVILLE OH- The teams that got the closest to state in the basketball arena are coming in to 2022-2023 with hopes of taking that next step closer. Garfield falls in that category. Their girls were one of the few teams in the YSN family to still be alive in the Regional round.  Although they fell short in Cuyahoga Falls, there are a ton of reasons to be confident they can get there again this season. They lost key pieces to graduation for sure, but they have players who are hungry to grab their opportunity to shine.  Last season the G-Men finished with a record of 19-7 (11-3) which was 3rd in the MVAC.  They start their campaign this season on November 19 as they host a good Bristol team.

EAST PALESTINE BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH TRISTAN REYNOLDS

EAST PALESTINE, OH- The winds of change are blowing in Stream City, as Tristan Reynolds will take over an East Palestine program that has longed for consistency over the last 3 years.

Reynolds will take over as the Bulldogs’ new head coach, and his first varsity opportunity after years of great tutors like Rick Gates, and a Hall of Famer to whom he didn’t have to look very far for in his own mother, Cindy Straney.

For Reynolds, he will use both his experience and youth to his advantage by being able to mentor and connect with his players on a personal level to help them overcome any adversity they may face along the way.

While it’s important to get wins on the floor, it’s evident that Reynolds has bigger goals in creating better young people in the community.

We caught up with Coach to discuss all of that and more on the first edition of East Palestine Coach’s Corner with Tristan Reynolds.
