BOARDMAN GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JEFF HAMMERTON

BOARDMAN OH- It’s the start of a new era in Boardman Girls Basketball, although Jeff Hammerton isn’t new to this program. He does take his first year back in the head coaching chair this season for the Spartans.  He has brought excitement to the program, and what they’re building. The Spartans were young and talented last season. They finished the year at 8-15.  They had plenty of games that they felt they could have won, so there’s no surprise they expect to improve that record this year.  They will start aiming for that goal on November 28 on the road at South Range.

Coach Hammerton took the time to hop on an interview with YSN’s Ty Bartell to give us a solid preview of the Spartans season. They go over key names on the roster, interesting matchups that appear on the schedule, and much more. Get ready Spartans fans basketball is right around the corner. LOWELLVILLE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH LISA MODELSKI

LOWELLVILLE OH- Basketball season is almost here.  As the dates go by and we get closer, we continue to preview the season. Lowellville’s girls program is an interesting one to look at.  Watching them last year, you can tell they have the ability to make waves. Although they lose a chunk of their consistent scoring from a year ago, this season they return a lot of talent, and experience.  The Rockets were 10-12 last season, and got a huge tournament win on the road at Badger.  They’ll take the momentum of that win into this year. They open the season at home against Campbell on November 18.

Head coach Lisa Modelski took the time to sit down with Anthony Hartwig to give us a preview of their season.  They talk about key members of their roster, what the biggest strength of the team will be, and so much more. NEWTON FALLS GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MARK BAKER

NEWTON FALLS OH- As the fake deer turns closer to the winter sports season, you can feel the anticipation rising. People in Newton Falls are excited for the basketball season. Their girls were young last season, and took some shots but with a year of experience under their belt the Tigers promise to be a serious contender this season.  The Tigers opened the season strong last season winning their first 3 games. They’ll look to repeat that start, and keep it going this time around. Newton Falls opens the season on November 21 against Warren JFK on the road.

Head coach Mark Baker was kind enough to take the time to hop on to Running Point to help us get a preview of their season. He talks to Anthony Hartwig about what players are going to make the biggest impact, how they’ll navigate a tough MVAC, and so much more. CANFIELD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MATT REEL

CANFIELD OH- It’s just about go time for basketball in Canfield. On the girls side of things, the program is in the middle of a very successful stretch. Last season the Cardinals won a share of the AAC, splitting with Howland. They’re impressive record of 16-7 (6-1) made them one of the most respected programs in the area. In 2022-2023 they move down to Division 2. This gives Canfield a lot of confidence that they can make some postseason moves.  Before all that though they have a tough regular season schedule to get through. The Cardinals open up with a returning district champion welcoming in West Branch on November 22nd.

Head coach Matt Reel goes in to his 13th season at he helm. He was gracious enough to take the time to come on to YSN’s Running Point to preview the year to come. He talks with Anthony Hartwig  about his returning starters, some new faces to watch out for, and so much more. CARDINAL MOONEY BOYS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH MATT BRITTON

YOUNGSTOWN OH- After a year away from the OHSAA State bracket Cardinal Mooney is right back in to the final four.  After a 2-0 win over Beachwood the Cardinals have punched their second ticket to the state semifinals in three seasons. They were able to score 2 goals in 2 minutes during the second half to clinch the win. The Cardinals will play a familair foe in the state semifinals as they match up with Ottawa Hills on Wednesday at 7:00 at Perkins High School in Sandusky.

Cardinals head coach Matt Britton took the time to come on YSN’s Running Point this week to talk to Anthony Hartwig about the upcoming state matchup.  They talk about the Cardinals key to victory, their hard work in the classroom, and so much more. LISBON GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH RYAN SNYDER

LISBON OH- Lisbon girls basketball has a bright season ahead of them looking at 2022-2023. There’s no reason to think the Blue Devils can’t take the positives of last season and expand them to deeper horizons.  Last season, the Blue Devils were 9-12 (7-4) and they finished 4th in the EOAC. They turned things around after a slow start. They lost 5 of the first seven last season. This year, the Blue Devils have high hopes. They’ll open their campaign November 22 at Malvern.

Lisbon’s head coach Ryan Snyder took the time to jump on to an interview with YSN’s Ty Bartell to preview the upcoming season.  They talk about the players that can make big impacts on the year, what makes Lisbon special, and so much more. SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JEFF FISHEL

CANFIELD OH- South Range comes in to the 2022-2023 season winning 2 of the last 3 district championships.  They’ve also won 5 since 2013. One of the most consistent programs of the last decade looks to bring back success to the Raiders basketball court. Last season, the Raiders went 15-9 (12-2) and finished 2nd in the NE8. This season, the Raiders look to get back on top. They open the season on November 21st at home against Springfield.  They open conference play against reigning conference champion Poland on December 15th.

Raiders head coach Jeff Fishel took the time to hop on an interview with YSN’s Ty Bartell to give us a sneak peak of the season.  They go over who key members of the roster will be, where the Raiders stand in the conference, and so much more. POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- Poland is coming off another impressive season in girls basketball. The Bulldogs went 19-5 (13-1) and grabbed the NE8 crown outright.  The Bulldogs lost in the district semifinals to West Branch who went on to win the district.  The Bulldogs open the season at home on November 28th against Fitch.

Head Coach Nick Blanch returns for his 13th season. Having more than 200 wins, coach Blanch is one of the most successful the area has to offer. He took the time to help us preview the season by sitting with YSN’s Ty Bartell.  They talk about the returning roster, what the Bulldogs schedule looks like this season, and much more. CARDINAL MOONEY COACH’S CORNER: WITH HEAD COACH CARL PELINI

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Cardinal Mooney head football coach Carl Pelini joined D.J. Yokley to talk about the 2022 campaign. Cardinal Mooney played one of the most difficult schedules in all of division five. Pelini talks about making the schedule difficult to prepare his squad for the postseason. The Cardinals are playing their best football at the right time after beating Edison 45-14, followed by beating Norwayne 24-17 to advance to the regional semifinals. Coach Pelini has done a fantastic job turning the program around from a year ago to make a regional semifinal appearance against the number one seeded South Range Raiders. SPRINGFIELD TIGERS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 3) WITH SEAN GUERRIERO

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – The Springfield Tigers march into Week 12 of the high school football season after a commanding 42-0 victory over Matthews last week. The Tigers wasted little time against the Mustangs, jumping out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead en route to the victory. This week’s opponent, like the Tigers, has enjoyed a lot of playoff success lately, and that is the Warren JFK Eagles. Warren JFK is 10-1 coming into this week’s matchup after they took care of Fairport Harbor last week. The Eagles will be the home team this week, as they will get another game at the home of the Liberty Leopards.

In this week’s coaches’ corner, Springfield Head Coach Sean Guerriero spoke on last week’s big win, the grind that his team has had to endure this season, some keys to victory this week, and more!
