POLAND, OH – The Poland Lady Bulldogs are having a season to remember as they are currently undefeated in the NE8 with a chance to win the league outright this week! That success can be linked to many things but one main reason is a group of talented senior leaders. Mary Brant and Ava Sabrin are the two that form the dynamic defensive duo on the Poland Lady Bulldogs soccer team, bringing their exceptional skills and commitment to the pitch. As seniors, they have not only been a formidable force on the field but also inspirational leaders for their teammates. Brant is known for her rock-solid defensive prowess, with a keen sense of anticipation and remarkable agility, she has stopped countless opposition attacks, earning her a reputation as a tenacious defender. Her ability to read the game and initiate crucial counterattacks from the backline has been pivotal to the Lady Bulldogs’ success. Sabrin, on the other hand, complements Mary’s skills perfectly as a fellow senior defender, Ava brings her own brand of determination and skill to the team. Her exceptional ball control and precision passing make her a vital cog in both the defensive and transitional phases of the game. TIGERS IN COMPLETE CONTROL ON SENIOR NIGHT

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- In a commanding display of skill and teamwork, the Springfield girls’ soccer team delivered a resounding 9-0 victory over Brookfield. The Springfield squad exhibited remarkable precision in both their offensive and defensive efforts, resulting in a one-sided match.

The scoring barrage for Springfield was led by several standout players. Maddie Page was unstoppable on the field, netting an impressive hat-trick with three goals to her name. Ava Vecchione showcased her scoring prowess as well, contributing two goals to the tally. Sami Shafer, Emma Sanders, and Addy McLaughlin each added one goal to Springfield’s impressive total. Additionally, Brookfield experienced an unfortunate own goal during the contest.

Assisting in these goal-scoring plays, Springfield displayed excellent teamwork with Maddie Page, Ava Vecchione, Kristina Vecchione, Ashley Bellstrom, and Cara Castor each providing assists.

In the defensive department, Springfield’s Ally Guerriero played a crucial role, making two saves and maintaining a clean sheet against Brookfield’s attempts.

On the Brookfield side, Jasmine Hubbard demonstrated resilience and determination with an impressive 23 saves, despite the formidable offensive pressure from Springfield.

Springfield’s dominant performance and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities were evident throughout the match. Their cohesive play, combined with the individual brilliance of key players, allowed them to secure this convincing 9-0 win.

WEST BRANCH WINS THEIR TENTH STRAIGHT EBC CROWN

BELOIT OH- The West Branch girls soccer team took control early, and cruised to a 7-0 victory over rival Salem tonight at West Branch High School.  The win clinches the programs 10th consecutive EBC title as the Warriors finished a perfect 5-0 in the league.

Scoring two goals apiece for the Warriors were Lauren Gossett and Sophia Gregory.  Chloe Dennison and Mady Klingensmith each added a goal.  Kennedy Berger chipped in two assists for West Branch while Allie Brammer, Ellie Tucker, and Dennison each had one assist.

Zoe Sanders made seven saves in goal to combine with Audrey Eaton for the shutout.

West Branch is now 10-2-2 on the season and will host United for senior day on Saturday at 1 PM.

Canfield Girls Soccer Secures AAC Championship with 3-0 Win Over Boardman

In a thrilling match that carried the weight of the AAC championship, the Canfield girls’ soccer team showcased their skill and determination to emerge victorious. Canfield’s impressive performance led them to a 3-0 win over Boardman, securing their title as the AAC champions.

The Canfield squad, with an outstanding season record of 15-0-1, knew they had to bring their A-game against a formidable opponent like Boardman. They did not disappoint, demonstrating their exceptional teamwork and prowess on the field.

The scoreboard came alive thanks to the Canfield offense, with Hannah Wahib leading the charge with two well-executed goals. Wahib’s scoring prowess was on full display, leaving the opposition’s defense with little answer.

Adding to Canfield’s offensive showcase was Maci Toporcer, who notched a goal of her own. The teamwork and precision displayed by the Canfield squad were highlighted by the assists provided by Lexi Toporcer, setting up the scoring opportunities with precision.

This pivotal win not only improved Canfield’s season record to an impressive 14-0-1 but also guaranteed them at least a share of the coveted AAC title, highlighting their dominance in the league.

The scoring action commenced with Canfield’s Hanna Wahib and Lorieona Jannone showcasing their offensive prowess. These dynamic players found the back of the net with precision and determination, demonstrating the offensive depth that sets Canfield apart. The goal-scorers were ably assisted by Maci Toporcer, whose vision and teamwork played a pivotal role in creating scoring opportunities.

Howland responded with a goal of their own, courtesy of Ava Yanucci. This spirited exchange of goals only added to the intensity of the match, as both teams displayed relentless determination to secure a vital victory.

CANFIELD SHINES ON THE BIG STAGE

Would it surprise you if I told you that The Canfield Cardinals girls soccer team is having
another successful season? Needless to say, The Cardinals have been the definition of success the past decade plus. Accumulating 11 consecutive All-American Conference (AAC) championships since 2012 while also collecting 6 district championships and 4 regional finals appearances in that same span! This year, so far, has been no different. As Canfield is perched atop the AAC with a perfect 5-0 record, they are also flying high with a 12-0-1 record entering Sunday’s match.

The Cardinals next test? The St. Marys Memorial Roughriders, from St. Marys, Ohio about fifteen minutes from Wapokoneta. The Roughriders have been no strangers to success either, with an impressive 75 wins since 2017, St. Marys Memorial has collected 6 consecutive seasons of 10 or more wins and entered Sunday currently with an 8-3-1 record. Both The Cardinals and The Roughriders got to meet at the beautiful Lower.com Field, home of the historic Columbus Crew.

On Sunday, during a beautifully warm October 1st the two teams took to the pitch and battled for momentum in the beginning moments. The Roughriders came out aggressive, keeping the ball on The Cardinals side of the field and forcing them to play defense. However, Canfield adjusted by the fifth minute of the first half and started applying the pressure to St. Marys. Hanna Wahib opened the scoring for The Cards with a goal halfway through the opening half to give Canfield the early 1-0 lead. The chess match continued on the field between the two programs, as The Cardinals were getting more shots on goal and keeping The Roughriders on their heels. Lorieona Jannone doubled the lead for Canfield with a goal late in the first half, making their lead 2-0. Not done there,

The Cards piled it on in the waning minutes of the half as Vivian Nohra and Maci Toporcer also grabbed goals to, once again, double Canfield’s lead 4-0 at the end of the half. Maci Toporcer would also grab the opening goal of the second half, her second on the day, to extend the lead for The Cards by a full five goals at 5-0. The Toporcer goal would be the last goal for either team of the day with Canfield shutting down The Roughriders offense in the second half as well, winning the match in Columbus 5-0!

The Canfield offense was firing on all cylinders, with multiple players finding the back of the net. Leading the charge was Drew Snyder, who had an outstanding performance with four goals, leaving the Salem defense struggling to contain his relentless attacks. Andrew Battaglia contributed significantly with two well-placed goals, while Ethan Mulichak added another to the tally.

The Canfield players demonstrated their unselfish play by racking up assists as well. Drew Snyder and Ethan Mulichak each provided two crucial assists, showcasing their ability to create scoring opportunities for their teammates. WARREN OH- In an exhilarating soccer matchup, the Canfield boys’ soccer team showcased their skill and teamwork, securing a resounding 4-1 victory over Harding. The thrilling game displayed Canfield’s excellence on the field, leaving their opponents with few answers.

Canfield’s offensive prowess was on full display, with several players contributing to the team’s impressive tally of four goals. Drew Snyder led the scoring charge with two goals, showcasing his clinical finishing in front of the net. Ethan Mulichak and Andrew Battaglia added to the excitement with a goal each, highlighting the team’s depth in offensive talent.

YA KNOW ITS YANNUCCI

WARREN OH- Junior, Ava Yannucci of Howland has had a start to her career most could only dream of. Winning All District as a sophomore and countless other awards. Ava’s been the teams leading scorer this year and has been heavily depended on early in her career for a very good soccer school, It can be overwhelming for all that pressure to be on you as an athlete, but ava has been more then up for that challenge. Leading her team to a share of the conference last year as a sophomore she showed great humility when I asked about why she’s been able to be so dominant. Yannucci states a huge part of her success has been her team and the coaches who put her in that situation to succeed.

Howlands team this year is off to a great start being 8-2-2 in a really tough league. Big games coming up for them is GlenOak on 9/23 and Canfield on 10/2, Yannucci states “We have four tough conference opponents left to play, we’ve played all four teams already once this year, it’s going to come down to us staying focused and playing our game”. Howland is looking to win the conference for a second year in a row, the Tigers definitely have the talent to do so and we’ll be watching them closely as the season goes on.
