EAGLES SURVIVE ANOTHER BOUT WITH STRUTHERS

HUBBARD, OHIO- A walk-off double led the Hubbard Eagles past the Struthers Wildcats 3-2 on Wednesday.

The game was tied at two with the Eagles batting in the bottom of the eighth when Ben Wilcox doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. The pitching was strong on both sides as the Eagles pitchers struck out 11, while the Wildcats pitchers sat down 12.

Chance Laczko went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Wildcats in hits as Alec Grzyb was on the pitcher’s mound. The righthander lasted seven and a third innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out 12.

The Eagles racked up eight hits in the game as Gabe Rusnak, Wilcox, and Andrew Kali all collected multiple hits. Rusnak led the Eagles with three hits in four at bats.

Kali started the game for the Eagles as the righthander allowed three hits and two runs over six and a third innings, striking out seven before Rusnak came in relief and the was the winning pitcher of the day. The righty went one and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking one.

Hubbard will now take on West Branch to decide who will advance to the Division II District Championship game.
