GIRARD WINS THIRD GAME OF THE WEEK

By Michael Wolfgang

GIRARD, OHIO – After sweeping Jefferson in a two game set this week, Girard went out of conference Thursday to get a win over Warren Harding we 7-4.

Girard found themselves in a neck and neck battle most of the way but found a way to get the bats rolling late with an explosive five run bottom of the fifth inning to snatch the win.

Girard trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Will Hynes doubled on a 0-1 count that brought home two runs. Zack Ward had a big offensive day going 2-for-3 with two RBI’s to power the Girard lineup. Ward’s teammate Dominic Phillips went 3-for-4 at the plate to be the Indians hit leader.

Tyler Wilson was crowned the winning pitcher. Wilson surrendered one run on one hit over three and a third innings while sitting down two Raider batters with strikeouts. Girards final line was the seven runs on nine hits with three fielding errors that Harding couldn’t find enough ways to take advantage of.

Girard has now won three games in a row and will look to keep the good times rolling at home against Howland on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
