IRISH FIND NO LUCK IN AKRON

AKRON OH- After a cancellation last week against Chaney, and two weeks ago another dramatic win against Warren Harding, the Ursuline Irish were looking to get back into their winning rhythm as they would head to Green St. Stadium and John Cistone field to take on their old brother Irish rivals in St. Vincent St. Mary. Both of these teams have had a history in the 2000s era since 2005 but Ursuline has not beaten them since 2011. Would Ursuline end the winless streak or was it all St. Vincent St Mary at the end.

Ursuline started off the game like they never left off from two weeks ago. Brady Shannon drop back to pass and found Will Burney open for a 12-yard touchdown making it 7-0 early for Ursuline.

However, St. Vincent St Mary kept on scoring after and never looked back. George Linberger scored two touchdowns from one and two yards out. Ursuline blocked the PAT to make it 20-7 St. Vincent St. Mary’s.

That is when Ursuline went from one of the most powerful offenses to one that was outplayed for the first time all season. Shannon threw two interceptions that were returned by Joe Colby for a 22-yard touchdown off of a wide receiver screen and a 75-yard pick six from Torrell Hopson.

Star running back DeMarcus McElroy was also banged up on a defensive play which saw him limped to the sidelines. Christian Lynch would then take over the backfield for the injured McElroy and prove that he can be a reliable second back as he broke off tackles in the third for a 40-yard touchdown making it 33-14 and as we saw from Chardon, the Irish could be down a lot, but make big time comebacks in the most dramatic ways.

That did not happen as a Shannon safety with him slipping into the endzone and two more Linberger touchdowns to put the game out do reach as St. Vincent St. Mary keeps the winning streak alive in the battle of the Irish, beating Ursuline 49-14.
