IRISH TURN THE PAGE ON MOONEY

STRUTHERS, OH- On Wednesday, it was a pitcher’s duel in Chapter 2 of ‘The Holy War, but Ursuline came out on top in this version, blanking Cardinal Mooney 3-0. CJ Frasco was lights out for Ursuline, carving up the opposition from the mound.

Frasco was in fine form, going the distance with a complete game shutout, racking up an impressive 13 strikeouts while scattering just four hits and issuing three walks.

Ursuline struck early, with Thomas Pesa driving in the game’s first run with a single in the first inning. That early lead proved crucial as pitching dominated the day.

On the other side, Cardinal Mooney’s pitching wasn’t too shabby either. Jonathan Brenner started the game and worked into the sixth, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out seven and walking five. Ford Stacy came in relief and held things steady, but the damage had already been done.

At the plate, Ursuline spread the offense around with Luke Kollar, Anthony Triveri, Joe Balog, Pesa, and Rowan Urbach each picking up a hit. Urbach made his count, driving in two runs to pad Ursuline’s lead.

For Cardinal Mooney, the bats were quieter, but Ryan Reese, Kaden Reese, Trent Litman, and Vince Gentile each managed to notch a hit.

Ursuline will look to carry this momentum into their next game against Howland on Thursday, hoping to replicate their strong pitching and timely hitting.  Mooney will try to snap a 5-game skid against Lake Center Christian on Friday.
