HUBBARD CONTINUES DOMINATION OF THE IRISH

STRUTHERS, Ohio

Since their second-round playoff matchup in 2016, the Hubbard Eagles and Ursuline Irish have made a habit of facing off against one another. The Irish bested the Eagles 5-1 in their aforementioned postseason matchup but have failed to win since.

Seeking to continue their dominance of the Irish, the Dirty Birds struck first in the top of the secondinning, scoring 4 runs on just 2 hits. The Irish would respond quickly however, bringing across 2 of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Unfortunately for the Irish, their 2 second inning runs would be the only to come across in the ballgame while the Dirty Birds were just getting started.

Scoring a single run in the third and then 3 more in the fourth, Hubbard held a commanding 8-2 lead heading into the fifth. Already up big, the Dirty Birds would bust the game wide open by scoring 9 runs in the inning.

Hubbard’s explosive fifth was highlighted by a 2 RBI single off the bat of Joe Langley as well as a 2 RBI triple via Albert Gerlick. Ahead by 15 to end the fifth, Hubbard was forced to call of the dogs as the 10-run rule was called into effect, ending this one after 5 innings, 17-2
