LABRAE LEAVES THEIR MARK

Rylee McDonough drove in five runs on two hits to lead LaBrae past Liberty 18-1 on Monday at LaBrae High School in MVAC action. It was Liberty’s first conference loss of the season.

McDonough hit a home run to center field in the second inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the fourth inning, scoring one.

Riley Rowe struck out 10 batters on the day. The starting pitcher also gave up two hits and one run over five innings while walking one.

Liberty opened the scoring in the first after Chloe Fleps drew a walk, scoring one run. LaBrae flipped the game pretty quickly in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 5-1 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Rowe that drove in three. The Vikings went on to score five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. McDonough homered to center field, scoring three runs, Mariah Jones grounded out, scoring one run, and Khloe Sanderson singled, scoring one run. An error extended the LaBrae lead to 12-1 in the bottom of the third inning.  They added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on five hits. Nalena Page tripled, scoring one run, Syrina Gantt grounded out, scoring one run, McDonough doubled, scoring one run, and Jones homered to left field, scoring three runs.

Fleps started in the circle for Liberty. She gave up five hits and eight runs (seven earned) over one inning, striking out one and walking two.

LaBrae collected 12 hits in the game. Sanderson, Vada Allen, McDonough, and Rowe each collected two hits on the day.  Shelby Bragg paced the Vikings with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. They were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. McDonough made the most plays with seven. Sarah Spisak and Rachel Strohmeyer each collected one hit for Liberty.
