MOONEY PUTS A SHOCK INTO THE TIGERS

CANFIELD OH- In a surprising turn of events at South Range, the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals delivered a shocker by defeating the Springfield Tigers with a final score of 44-35.

From the opening tip-off, Mooney took control of the game, establishing an early lead of 9-5 in the first quarter. Their dominance continued into halftime, where they extended their lead to 23-9. By the end of the third quarter, Mooney maintained a comfortable advantage, leading 35-22. Despite Springfield’s efforts to rally in the final stretch, Mooney secured the victory with a final score of 44-35.

Sophia Diorio emerged as the standout performer for Mooney, earning the title of Player of the Game with an impressive double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Katie Pregibon contributed 9 points, while Samantha Rotunno added 8 points to Mooney’s scoring effort. Talecia Huff made her presence felt with 6 points and 6 rebounds, showcasing the team’s well-rounded performance.

For Springfield, Jameka Brungard led the Tigers’ offensive charge with 17 points and 7 rebounds, displaying resilience throughout the game. Ava Vecchione chipped in with 9 points and 2 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Mooney’s determined effort.

With this victory, Mooney improved their season record to 2-5 and is set to return to South Range for the sixth annual South Range Holiday Hoops Classic, where they will face the Massillon-Washington Tigers (6-3) on Friday, December 29th. Meanwhile, Springfield, now standing at 7-3, will engage in a heated matchup against their longtime rival, the South Range
