QUAKERS DROP HEARTBREAKER TO MARLINGTON

MARLINGTON, OH- The Salem Quakers were edged out by the Marlington 1-0 in a nail-biter on Wednesday, with the game decided on a heartbreaking error in the bottom of the eighth. Until that point, both teams were locked in a pitcher’s duel, with the scoreboard stuck at zero.

Pitching was top-notch on both sides. Marlington’s arms managed to rack up nine strikeouts, while Salem’s pitchers weren’t far behind with eight of their own.

Drew Simmons was the standout for Marlington, throwing eight solid innings, allowing just four hits and no runs, and striking out nine to snag the win. On the flip side, Lance Bailey took a tough loss for Salem despite a strong outing. He pitched seven innings, yielding just one hit and no earned runs while striking out eight and issuing four walks.

Bailey wasn’t just a star on the mound; he also led Salem at the plate, hitting two-for-three. Marlington’s Parker Woods contributed with a hit in three at-bats.

Marlington was flawless in the field, not giving up a single error, with Tatem Hoffman getting the most chances with nine.

It was a classic low-scoring affair that ended in dramatic fashion, leaving the Quakers just short as the Dukes walked it off thanks to an untimely mistake.
