YOUNGSTOWN OH- Salem defeated Cardinal Mooney, 51-26 on Monday to chalk up their first win of the 2023-24 campaign.

The first quarter was a slugfest that ended in a 12-8 Salem lead, but this was as close as the game would get.

Salem outscored Mooney in the second quarter, 19-2, to head into the locker room with a 31-10 halftime lead thanks in part to Maddy Andres scoring 8 points in the quarter, including a made 3-pointer.

Salem took their foot off the gas in the third quarter, being outscored 9-5, but entered the fourth quarter with a 36-19 lead.

The Quakers bounced back in the fourth quarter and outscored Mooney, 15-7, with six of those points coming from Reese Davidson-Chuck, who finished the game with 13 points, to come out victorious on the road.

Salem dominated the glass on both ends of the floor, which propelled them to their 25-point win.

Rylee Hutton led the Quakers in scoring with 20 points and had a plethora of steals.

Talecia Huff led Mooney in scoring with 11 points, but struggled from the free throw line, shooting 1/7.

The Cardinals shooting 27% from the charity stripe also helped lead them to their demise.

Salem will host Alliance Wednesday, while Mooney will get 12 days of rest before going to the West Side to take on Chaney next Saturday.
