BULLDOGS FIND A GREEN LIGHT LATE

CANFIELD OH-Two premier basketball programs on the girls side competed in the third game of the fifth annual, South Range Holiday Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. The Green Bulldogs, who came in with a 6-2 record and a perfect 5-0 in the very tough Federal League, matched up with a phenomenal 8-2 Hathaway Brown Blazers squad. 

With some early turnovers and fastbreak buckets, The Blazers were able to capture an early advantage with an 8-0 run to give them a 12-4 lead in the first quarter. However, Green had the perfect response lined up, as in the second The Bulldogs went on a counter-run, scoring 9-0 to regain an advantage and build on it, but by halftime, it was a one possession game. 

Gia Piscitelli was playing incredible on Wednesday afternoon, going into takeover mode several times throughout the contest, Piscatelli ended up with 19 points of offense when all was said and done. After three quarters, the two squads were knotted up at 36 points a piece, but The Bulldogs brought back the bite on defense in the fourth. Holding The Blazers to just five points in the fourth quarter, Green outscored their opponent 15-5 in the final quarter to ultimately, winning the game 51-41. 

The Player of The Game was awarded to Jenna Slates of The Bulldogs, who scored 21 points of offense while also dominating the glass and paint. Her contributions, defensively, in the post and her ability to control the rebounding battle was more than enough to earn her the honors. Both teams will be back in action on Thursday, December 29th as they will be welcomed back for the second day of The South Range Holiday Tournament.
