QUAKERS SQUARE UP WIN IN HOME OPENER

SALEM, OH- An early lead helped Salem defeat Minerva 6-2 on Tuesday. The Quakers scored on a single by Carson Rhodes, as well as a single by Gavin Wilms, and an error in the second inning to start the scoring for the Red and Black.

YSU commit, Lane Rhodes, pitched Salem to victory. The Ace went five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out eight. Brock Young threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Young recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Salem.

Evan Barnes was on the mound for Minerva and went four innings, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out five. Kole Mayle threw two innings in relief.

Darius Beck went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Salem offense in hits.
