SALEM WINS DOUBLE HEADER AGAINST RAIDERS

WARREN OH-

GAME 1:

After a very nice ceremony to celebrate the opening of a beautiful new softball field at Warren Harding, their AD said “play ball”. Those words never sounded so good after missing the 2020 season. After a scoreless first two innings for each team, freshmen catcher Bella Brant (top of 3rd) hit the first pitch she saw to the top of the 8ft fence in left at 200’ for a double. That would ignite a 4 run inning. Senior Dorothy Moore went 3 for 3 with a walk and 2 RBI. Freshmen Lauryn Barton added three hits and Junior Jenna McClish added 2 RBI. Sam Moore, Hannah Kelm, Rylie Troy and Chase Toy all had hits. Salem was aggressive on the bases stealing 7 bases and allowing 0. Leading the thieving was Hannah Kelm with 2 SB.

Rylie Troy was the winning pitcher going 6 innings, striking out 9 while walking 0. Rylie had great command of her two seam and rise ball allowing 5 hits on 91 total pitches. Savannah Schaff pitched a scoreless 7th with two strikeouts.

GAME 2:

For the second straight game the Quakers began their hitting barrage in the 3rd inning. Leadoff hitter Hannah Kelm started a string of 4 straight hits to began the 3rd inning which ended with Salem up 6-0. Hannah had 4 hits in the game. Every spot in the lineup had at least one hit. Sophomore Chase Toy had three hits/scored three runs in the game and hit the ball hard just about every at bat in the double header. Rylie Troy added two doubles and 3 RBI. Madalynn Workman, Dorothy Moore and Jenna McClish each had two hits. Bella Brant had a bases loaded 3RBI double.

Rylie Troy raised her record to 2-0 in the circle striking out 3 while walking just 1 in 6 innings of work. Savannah Schaff once again pitched a scoreless inning.

The defensive gem of the game was a 6-4-3 double play that ended with a very good stretch from Dor Dor at first base.
