SCRAPPERS LATE PUSH IS VICTORIOUS

NILES OH- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers improved to 2-0 on the campaign after a late push in the seventh inning to beat West Virginia 3-2.

Deerfield, Ohio native Eric Sapp got the pill for Mahoning Valley to make his first start of the season. Sapp kept the Scrappers in the game, tossing 4 innings and allowing only 1 run, while fanning 5 batters. Sapp and West Virginia starter Shane Murphy went back and forth, until Scrappers right fielder Xavier Carter hit a solo homerun in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1.

West Virginia second baseman Blaze Brothers hit a solo shot in the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Scrappers came right back in the seventh inning, drawing 3 walks to load the bases, and then scoring 2 runs on a groundout by Tommy Benson and plating another on a wild pitch. Slippery Rock native, Ricky Mineo slammed the door shut in the ninth inning with a 3 out save to win the ballgame 3-2.
