SPECIAL DELIVERY; BARTELS PROPELS RANGE TO REGIONALS

CANFIELD, OH- South Range took their game in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off single at the end of the game to topple Poland’s incredible effort at a District crown. The game was tied at five with the  Raiders batting in the bottom of the seventh when Gretchen Bartels singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

South Range earned the victory despite allowing Poland to score three runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs’ big inning was driven by home runs by Mary Brant and Katie McDonald.

Poland’s back-to-back jacks from Brant and McDonald held strong until the dynamic duo of Juli Stachowicz and Anna Aey delivered home runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3.

Juli Stachowicz was the winning pitcher for South Range Varsity Raiders. The lefthander allowed six hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one.  J-Stach also registered her 300th career strikeout during the contest.

Katie McDonald took the tough luck loss for Poland. The pitcher went six and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, striking out nine and walking one.

South Range tallied 11 hits in the game. Madison Dado, Stachowicz, and Keira Brogan all had multiple hits for South Range Varsity Raiders. Dado led South Range Varsity Raiders with three hits in four at-bats.

Brant went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Poland in hits.

South Range will now battle Triway on Wednesday in Canton in the Regional Semi-Final at 5pm.
