EAGLES WASTE NO TIME IN LAKEVIEW

CORTLAND, Ohio –
Prior to and at the conclusion of tonight’s game, there were plenty of hugs and conversations between the Hubbard coaching staff and newly appointed Lakeview head coach, Sam Bellino. Bellino spent over ten years with the Hubbard program between his playing days and his time as an assistant coach.

Although Bellino knew his opponent as well as one could, the Hubbard Eagles (7-0) needed little time to impose their will on their NE8 counterpart Lakeview Bulldogs (0-7). Just over a minute and a half into the night, TC Caffey broke yet another long touchdown run, this one from fifty-six yards out.

Lakeview showed early success, converting on third down on their very first drive before getting into fourth and short at their own thirty-nine. The offense would stay on the field to try and draw the Eagles offsides before quarterback, Nate Fox, would drop back for a quick punt. Unfortunately for Fox, the snap was 6 feet too tall, sailing over his head and allowing Hubbard to takeover at the Bulldog seventeen. Two plays later and it was Ben Wilcox on a seventeen-yard jet sweep to put the Eagles up 14-0 after Kyle Walker’s extra point.

Wilcox would score once more in the first quarter from twenty-six yards out, then Caffey would provide three more scores from the Eagles before the half was over. After half, the dogs were called off for the birds. Lakeview would score once thanks to Nate Fox, and Hubbard’s second unit saw their first score of the season, on a Xander Owens eighty plus yard touchdown run.

BIG PERFORMERS
HUBBARD:
TC Caffey: 19 carries, 294 rushing yards, 4 TDs
Ben Wilcox: 2 carries, 42 rushing yards, 2 TDs
LAKEVIEW:
Nate Fox: 9 carries, 32 rushing yards, 1 TD
UP NEXT
Hubbard: While Hoffman hasn’t surpassed Bayuk just yet, he will get the chance to do so at home this coming week, as his Eagles host the rival Girard Indians (4-3). The two schools have split their last four matches evenly at two wins a piece.
Lakeview: Still searching for their first win of the season, the road doesn’t get much easier for the Bulldogs next week, as they will take on their former helm of the program in Coach Pavlansky and his new Poland (4-3) squad.

On the flip side of the ball the Eagles were led by quarterback Caleb Hadley and runningback/wide receiver Antwan Brown who broke away for a couple of huge runs to set up multiple scores for the eagles offense as the game came down to the final drive where Hadley’s pass just bounced off of the hands of an open receiver and the eagles lose a tough one to the Mogadore Wildcats 16-14.

PAVLANSKY SETTING THE STANDARD

CORTLAND OH- Lakeview junior setter Maggie Pavlansky has been a key factor in the Bulldog’s success since she has stepped on the varsity court her freshman season. It is no surprise that she has reached a career milestone before reaching her senior season. On Monday in Lakeview’s sweep of Canfield, Pavlansky reached her 1000th career assist. It is a fantastic achievement to reach for anyone, but to reach it as a junior is even more impressive.

The Bulldogs setter took the time to join YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about her achievement and where the team is at right now. It’s always fun to catch up with Maggie. Anthony and Ty ask her about her milestone, her reflections on her career, and much more. Don’t miss this exclusive interview with the new member of the 1,000 assist club.
