SALEM TENNIS COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH KEITH PARKER

SALEM OH- Salem tennis is off to a strong start to the season. When head coach Keith Parker took over last season, no one on the team had played competitive tennis. Now here they are with a week full of sweeps a year later. The Quakers turnaround has been dramatic, and coach Parker credits it to the hard work the team has put in in the off season.  It is hard to get better during the season, so a lot of their growth from year one to year two is behind the scenes work.

Coach Parker is also actively working to grow the program, and the sport of tennis in the community. They’ve had skills clinics in the winter with great turn out. Coming from a tennis hot bed in Indians, coach Parker knows what a great tennis community looks like.

Coach Parker took the time to come on YSN’s Running Point to talk about his squad this year. He gave Anthony Hartwig, and Ty Bartell and introduction to the tennis world. They also talk about team culture, growth of the sport, and much more. Check out episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Keith Parker.

BOARDMAN SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH FRED MOOTZ

BOARDMAN OH- Last season, Canfield was a big thorn in Boardman’s side. They swept the Spartans and kept them out of the AAC race. Something that hurt even worse when Boardman split the series with Fitch last season. This time around with Canfield, Boardman got the win in the first matchup of the season. The win over the Cardinals was a big turning point for the Spartans. They were coming off a tough weekend sweep at the hands of West Branch.

The second matchup with Canfield will have to wait as the Spartans, and most of the other teams in the area navigate the weather of northeast Ohio. The Spartans next scheduled game is a double header with Aurora on Saturday at home.

Fred Mootz discussed the big win, and some of the great starts his players have had with Anthony Hartwig and Scotty Mincher on YSN’s Running Point. Hear from the head man himself in Episode 2 of Coach’s Corner with Fred Mootz.

CHAMPION SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH CHERYL WEAVER

WARREN OH- Champion softball has built a reputation of success over the years under Cheryl Weaver. They are a legitimate dynasty among the softball world. Weaver has led the Flashes to nine state championship appearances, and six state titles. Including 3 in a row from 2017-2019. Coming off the missed season of 2020 was rough in 2021. The Flashes missed out on the senior seasons of incredible talents, and even better leaders, and then had to throw some young players into the fire. They still made it to the district championship game where they fell to South Range. The Flashes will look to use one more of experience to get back to where they belong this season.

Head coach Cheryl Weaver took the time to talk to the boys of YSN’s Running Point to give us a preview of the season. They discuss team goals, this program’s standards, and much more.

WEST BRANCH BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH RICK MULINIX

BELOIT OH-  Baseball is different in Beloit, and West Branch exemplifies that perfectly. With some great bats and even greater arms to come from The Warriors in the past few decades.  With a particularly younger team this season, Coach Rick Mulinix will look to lean on his few upperclassmen for leadership, while developing the younger talent.   The Warriors will have their work cut out for them in that Eastern Buckeye Conference (EBC), with the likes of Salem, Marlington, and Carrollton to compete with. Just to name a few.   Like most years in The EBC, the arms will dictate who walks out atop the conference.

West Branch will hit the ground running with a home and away matchup, starting on Tuesday, March 29th versus Minerva.   Catch this episode of Coaches Corner, as Anthony and Ty get the chance to talk with Coach Mulinix!
