18U: RICH GETS RICHER, DELL TOSSES NO-NO

STRUTHERS, OH- You could almost feel it coming.  Like the calm before the storm, Richie Dell calmly took his spot on the mound against Roth Brothers with his team battling for position atop the Class B.

Then, with a whip of his arm, and the violence of a lightning strike- Richie Dell struck out 11 batters on his way to a no-hitter 10-0 victory on Wednesday night.

Dell was the headline most certainly, but some of the focus should be on the offense that found ways to get on base and get things moving in the third inning.  Creekside is a team that pushes the envelope aggressively on the basepaths.  Look no further than the first hit of the game when BJ Arnold looped a ball into shallow centerfield that drew the shortstop, second baseman, and centerfielder to the baseball-leaving second base vacant for Arnold to occupy for a double.

From there, Dylan Gurski led the charge with 2 RBI and a triple for Creekside.

What started out as an incredible pitchers duel faded with Roth starter, Adam Wibert- who pitched his tail off striking out 4, walking 4, and scattering 5 hits.  Wibert had Creekside off balanced for the majority of his performance.  Ricky Mineo pitched in relief, striking out and walking a pair while giving up four runs.

Creekside, for the time being, have control with a 10-2 record, and the Astro Falcons are on pause until Friday night.

18U: CREEKSIDE TIES THINGS UP AT THE TOP WITH WIN OVER ‘STRO’S

STRUTHERS, OH- It was the second game of the day for both teams, and only one could remain perfect on the day.  The battle of the true heavyweights in the league took place, and behind an outstanding performance by Andrew Vance, Creekside was able to escape in extra innings with a 2-1 victory.  With the win, the Orange Crush were able to secure a tie at the top of the standings, each with a 9-2 record, respectfully.

Vance shined through 8 innings of work, walking a pair and striking out a pair while peppering 5 hits with only one run scoring.

Creekside’s offense scored one in the fourth on an error which was answered in the bottom of the frame by the Astro Falcons when Josh Hoffman scored on a passed ball.  The eventual winning run came in the top of the eighth inning when BJ Arnold hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Kyle Weitzel.

Mike Budde (pictured) led the way for Creekside at the dish, going 2-3 with a run scored.

For the Astro Falcons, Chase Franken inherited the loss after going 3 innings in relief.  Franken gave up four hits, and a run while walking a pair and striking out 3.

Josh Hoffman and Brayden Beck went 1-3 for the Astro’s.

18U: CREEKSIDE CONTINUES TO ROLL, LEAP OVER AVALANCHE

STRUTHERS, OH- Creekside Fitness is putting the rest of Class B on notice lately, as they chugged past another foe on Saturday 7-3.  The latest victim was the Avalanche who sent Zach Rhodanz to the bump to face off against the red-hot hitters of Creekside.

Rhodanz gave up 5 earned runs, 6 walks while sitting down 4 in his showing. Carmen Cavalier and Joel Kreuzwieser appeared in relief where Kreuzwieser gave up only a hit while striking out a pair.

For Creekside, Dylan Gursky had two hits including a double, an RBI and scored once while Kyle Weitzel had two hits including a home run, three RBIs and scored twice for Creekside. Cameron Kern pitched in the victory, only giving up one hit and no earned runs while striking out nine.

Damian Airwyke had two hits including a triple and scored once for Avalanche.

18U: CREEKSIDE FLEXES PAST EAGLE WEAR

STRUTHERS, OH- Creekside’s Grant Metzger had a fantastic showing on Friday on the mound during an 8-1 victory over Eagle Wear.  Metzger kept hitters off-balanced while going the distance, striking out 11, scattering two hits, walking three which led to the only run of the game for the birds.

Leading the way offensively for Creekside were Nic Ottaviani, and Nate Stutz who had two RBI each.  Luke Stauffer and Metzger each contributed a run batted in as well.

Caleb Quinn was the pitcher of record for Eagle Wear.  Quinn gave up 8 hits, seven earned runs and struck out four batters in his outing.

Ricky Enlow was the offensive highlight for Eagle Wear with a triple and an RBI.

DELL SHUTS DOWN KNIGHTLINE BATTERS, CREEKSIDE SLIDES INTO SECOND PLACE

STRUTHERS, OH- Creekside starter Richie Dell was nearly untouchable on Wednesday night.  Creekside held onto second place in the league with a 3-0 win over Knightline.  Dell struck out ten Knightline batters while giving up one walk and two hits in six innings of work.

Offensively, Creekside only had three hits to Knightline’s two- but made the most of their base runners.  Kyle Weitzel, Dan Beistel, Nic Ottaviani all came through with the base hits, while Grant Metzger and Nate Stutz had RBI’s in the win.

For Knightline, Brett Bobin took the loss with 6 innings pitched giving up three earned runs and three walks.

Richie Dell took home the Baird Brothers Player of the game for his performance.
