HAMILTON BARRELS HIS WAY TO 1000

KINSMAN,OHIO- What a night it was in little Kinsman, Ohio as the Badger Braves took on the Lordstown Devils. The man of the night was Brad Hamilton, who dropped 38 points and secured his spot in the Badger record books by reaching 1,000 career points.

Hamilton got hot fast and just went with the flow. Lewis flowers added 12 points and Duncan Moy finished with 6 points, which included to big dunks that got the Braves rolling.

The Braves went on to win 83-21 to improve to a 12-2 record and look to keep the momentum going when they take on the Heartland Christian Lions tomorrow.

LISBON BATTLES, TIGERS JUST TOO MUCH

WELLSVILLE, OH- The Lisbon Lady Blue Devils had upset on the mind going into Thursday’s match against Wellsville, and they almost pulled it off.  The Lady Tigers dropped their first set of the season in the conference but were able to bounce back to finish the match 3-1 (25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22.)

Emma Smith led Wellsville with 16 kills and 4 blocks while Alana Amato brought home Player of the Game honors with 14 kills and 3 aces.  Greta Cartwright had 23 assists and three aces, Emily McNicol had 26 helpers while Meaghan Nixon had 5 kills.  Aubri Ramsey also had a fantastic outing with 13 kills, 4 aces, and a pair of blocks.

Maddie Liberati paced Lisbon with 20 kills, 8 points, and 40 digs.  Callie Steed was jumping out of the gym on her way to 13 kills, while defensively had 21 digs.

The 9-1 Lady Tigers are now 7-0 in EOAC play, while Lisbon falls to 6-5 and 4-3.

BERGER ACES MEMORIAL EXAM, LADY BULLDOGS START SEASON WITH VICTORY

EAST PALESTINE, OH- The East Palestine Volleyball Team has had a year to think about the 2018 season, and how they are going to re-establish themselves in the EOAC.  On Monday night, the Lady Dogs started things out their way in the 2019 campaign, serving up a 3-0 defeat to Campbell Memorial (25-9, 25-13, 25-11).  The victory gives the Bulldogs a 1-0 record on the year.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Junior- Emily Berger.  Berger’s 18 points, 10 aces, 5 digs, and 3 kills did the most damage to the Lady Devil defense, which included a 13 serve streak in the third set to put the match out of reach.  For her efforts, Berger was awarded the Gorby’s Player of the Game.

Also contributing for the Lady Dogs were Olivia Figley (5 Kills,) and Morgan Cheurco who had 14 assists and 10 digs.

East Palestine will host United on Tuesday to kick-off their EOAC schedule.

 

POST GAME INTERVIEW WITH PLAYER OF THE GAME: EMILY BERGER

RESERVE BLANKS THE CLIPPERS

COLUMBIANA, OH- Western Reserve (5-0) turned a close game into a 10-0 defeat of Columbiana (3-3) on Saturday afternoon at Legion Field.  Columbiana trailed by a 3-0 score heading into the 7th inning, but the Blue Devils were able to add 7 runs in the frame to pull away.

Western Reserve took and an early 2-0 lead but was only able to add one more in the next 5 frames as the Clippers were solid defensively turning two inning-ending double plays to keep the score within reach.  Riley McElwain (0-1) got the start and gave up 3 runs over 4 innings.

Offensively, the Clippers mustered 6 hits on the afternoon.  Brady Dixon led the way as he was 3-3 on the day.  Chase Franken, Wayne Davis, and Tyler Andersen also collected hits for Columbiana.

After an off day on Sunday, Columbiana will be back in action Monday as the Clippers host Lisbon in a key EOAC contest.  First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.

EAGLES SOAR PAST LISBON LATE

LISBON, OH- The Lisbon Blue Devils lost the lead late in a 5-3 defeat to United on Monday. The Devils looked to have the game locked up in the top of the seventh leading by three runs with one away in the final frame.  The game was quickly tied at three with United batting in the top of the seventh when Black singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Black also earned the victory on the hill for United. He surrendered three runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out ten.

For Lisbon, Garrett Cox took the loss. He allowed three hits and five runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking none.  Senior Logan Bell started the game for the Devils and pitched a gem. He allowed two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out 13 and walking one.  Offensively, Josh Entrikin led Lisbon with two hits in four at-bats.

United Senior, Hydrick went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Eagles in hits.

LISBON LADIES HANDLE WELLSVILLE TO START TOURNEY

LISBON, OH- A rocky start for Lisbon in the first quarter quickly turned around in the next 3 as Lisbon turned up the heat in the Devil Den and pulled out a 62-25 victory over their EOAC foe, Wellsville.  Lisbon’s scoring came on the heels of junior point guard Izzy Perez with 18 points and 6 assists and senior guard Chloe Smith, 15 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds Cadee Johnson contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds. Madalyn Liberati had a strong night dominating the boards with 8 rebounds and 10 points.

Hunter Weekley led the much improved Wellsville Tigers with 10 points.

BIG DOGS OF THE VALLEY-WEEK 1 WINNERS

With over 100,000 votes cast between Sunday at 7 PM and Wednesday at midnight, the Week 1 Winners have been chosen for Baird Brothers’ Big Dog of the Valley.

 

Congratulations to Lisbon’s Ryan McCullough (37,189 votes) whose 26 points and 6 assists over Crestview earned him the boy’s reward.

LISBON FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH ALAN MIKOVICH (EP 5)

After a strong start for Lisbon, they’ve had a tough stretch.  The Devils will line up 2-3 to face the Leetonia and continue league play against EOAC foes this week in what will surely be a battle.  It’s been a weird week for many teams in the valley, but Lisbon looks to get things back on track in Week 6!

With the same winning mentality in place, can the Blue Devils return to state championship glory?  We’ll know first with Tyler Hoffman leading the way with all the pointed questions to Coach Mikovich.
