MORRIS AT THE CENTER OF IT ALL IN LIVERPOOL

Skilled position players get all the accolades when it comes to football, as it’s a game of statistics, and points.

However, nobody touches the football more than the center position.  For East Liverpool, their center is a man of few words but incredible brilliance on Friday nights!

PJ Morris has Potter Pride running through his veins and comes from a family that bleeds Blue and White.  So, it comes as no surprise when Morris takes this season, his senior year, so personal.  He is looking to create his impression, his legacy, and one that leaves a positive step toward moving the football program forward in East Liverpool!

Our Tommy Pease caught up with PJ on Friday to discuss what his vision is for this season, and after high school!  This week’s East Liverpool Player Profile is PJ Morris: MORRIS AT THE CENTER OF IT ALL IN LIVERPOOL.

THERE’S NO BEATIN’ NOAH WHEATON

The East Liverpool Potters are going streaking!  As they line up this week against the Martins Ferry Purple Riders, there are playoff implications on the line, and for this group of seniors, a chance to leave a legacy!  To regain tradition!  A chance to rewrite history in the E.L.O!

For one senior specifically, he has made it his personal mission to put bear this burden.  Coming off an outstanding game against Oak Glen Potter DB Noah Wheaton took a pick back to the house, and put the nail in the coffin on Friday night!

With another big game on the docket, Coach Lud will count on Wheaton’s 40 tackles, and 3 picks to help isolate another win.

WATKINS PROVIDES THE SPARK

All of these credentials lead to one young man in the East Liverpool lockerroom- Aidan Watkins.

The Potter senior has stepped in nicely to a role that was custom fitted to not only his abilities on the field but his attitude outside the lines.  With all the rich tradition that is East Liverpool football, the leadership role is not one taken lightly in Potterville, but one that is earned by the blood, sweat, and tear equity that has come for over a century in East Liverpool.

2018 just feels like a different year for the Potters.  Our Tommy Pease sits down with East Liverpool Senior Aidan Watkins in this week’s East Liverpool Player Profile- WATKINS PROVIDES THE SPARK

EAST LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH JOSH LUDWIG (EP 4)

Another huge week for the Potters as they battled with their biggest rival, Beaver Local, and came away with the “W”.

They set up now for a showdown with Oak Glen in one of the greatest best matchups in the state of Ohio.  The Potters look to get back on track and fight toward their ultimate goal!

Under the tutelage of Potters from the past, this team is getting back to its winning ways in a hurry.  With the rival Bears on the docket this week, The Big Blue Wrecking Crew know one thing, and one thing only: They’re in for a fight.  If there’s one win they want more than any other, it’s this one.

SALEM OUTLASTS LIVERPOOL

SALEM, OH- The Salem Quakers continued their winning ways with a 28-14 win of the Potters of East Liverpool on Friday night at Reilly Stadium. The Quakers were able to capitalize off of Potter miscues and finish drives on their way to their 3rd straight victory.

The Quakers opened the scoring in the 1st quarter with a 65-yard touchdown strike from Turner Johnson to Josh Lehwald, and with the 2 point conversion took an 8-0 lead. The Potters answered back on special teams when Nick Woodyard brought back a punt 53 yards for a score to pull East Liverpool within one at 8-7. After a 2nd quarter interception by Niko Walter, the Quakers struck again through the air from 34 yards out from Johnson to Luke Weingart making the halftime score 14-7 in favor of the Quakers.

The Quakers looked to get some breathing room when Cade Campolito scampered 21 yards for a score to give Salem a 20-7 lead and what seemed to be some breathing room. The Potters would not go quietly when sophomore Nate Davis came off the bench in the 4th quarter to hit Woodyard on a 23-yard touchdown strike to cut their deficit to 20-14. Needing to swing the momentum, Niko Walter took matters into his own hands and answered back right away with an 80-yard kick return to put the Quakers in great field position. Turner Johnson would find Luke Weingart again, this time from 20 yards out, and with the 2 point conversion, took a 28-14 lead and that’s where things would end up.

Salem moves to 3-0 on the season and opens EBC play when they host Carrollton at Reilly Stadium. Tune into YSNlive.com/Salem for the call, pregame starts at 6:30, kickoff at 7:00.

EAST LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH JOSH LUDWIG (EP.2)

What a week two for East Liverpool, even though our Potters came up short-they left everything out on the field.

They set up now for a HUGE rivalry game with Salem in one of the most tradition-rich rivalries in the state of Ohio.  The Potters look to get back on track and fight toward their ultimate goal!

Under the tutelage of Potters from the past, this team is getting back to its winning ways in a hurry.  With the rival Quakers on the docket this week, The Big Blue Wrecking Crew know one thing, and one thing only: They’re in for a fight.

Actions speak louder than words ever will.  When Coach Ludwig said that he wanted to send a message to the world in Week 1 against Shadyside, it wasn’t clear what type of message it would be.

Fast forward a week later: Message Received.

The Potters are BACK!

Under the tutelage of Potters from the past, this team is getting back to its winning ways in a hurry.  With rival Indian Creek on the docket this week, The Big Blue Wrecking Crew know one thing, and one thing only: They’re in for a fight.

POTTERS’ PATIENCE PAYING OFF

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH-  The numbers 3, and 7 consecutively are not charming in the eyes of Potter Nation.  For three straight seasons, the East Liverpool Football Program finished with a disappointing 3-7 status.  This year, Coach Ludwig and his staff feel the change from the foundation up.  You can see it on the field in their new uniforms.  You can hear it in the way they talk about this year.  You can point out how they refer to their historic program

“120 times prior to today, this picture has been taken.  We feel privileged to be 121” Ludwig said at media day while his team was frozen for a team photo.  This is the 121st year of East Liverpool Football, and while the recent history hasn’t been kind to the Potters, history tells us East Liverpool is never down for long.  “We’re going to show what we can do up front, and show everybody that we’re not just here to play around.  We actually want to do some good things this year,” says Senior Lineman, Joaquin Johnson

The Potters return all starters on offense and will have to improve on 2017’s numbers where they averaged just over 50 yards per game through the air.  If their ground-game stays consistent, it will allow the White and Blue Wrecking Crew to control the pace of the game, and take pressure off the defense who gave up 26.5 points per game in 2017.

Overall, the future is now for the Potters and now looks great from all standpoints.  Ready to get back to their winning ways, East Liverpool is set to kickoff against Shadyside at home on August 24th at 7:30.  Tommy and Rob will have the call on YSN-East Liverpool all year!

From all of us at Your Sports Network- Good Luck Potters!
