BOURNE TO BE WILD

EAST PALESTINE, OH- In the latest episode of YSN, hosts DJ Yokley and Anthony Hartwig sat down with East Palestine’s multi-talented athlete, Kyler Bourne, to uncover the journey of this remarkable young man who’s been making waves across football, basketball, and baseball. With his towering presence at 6’5″, his agility, and his determination, Kyler’s making an indelible mark on his community and in the hearts of those who support him.

As the starting first baseman and a powerful pitcher on the baseball team, Kyler’s dedication and athleticism are evident. But what stands out even more is his down-to-earth nature and dedication to his roots. “It’s every day, man,” Kyler shares about the competitive spirit in his household, emphasizing how even family dinners turn into friendly competitions.

Kyler’s evolution as an athlete is not just a personal triumph but a catalyst for change in the East Palestine School District. Reflecting on changing the culture of his team, he stated, “We’ve all been friends since we were little. The bonds there, no one hates each other. Everyone’s around each other every day, and we enjoy every second of it.”

Through ups and downs, Kyler and his teammates have learned to face challenges with resilience. When asked about bouncing back from tough losses, he stressed the importance of early efforts on the field: “We just got to clean up that first inning in the heading, and we’ll be just fine.”

While Kyler’s future might not follow the expected path of college athletics, his goals remain clear and grounded. He shared his intention to pursue a career as a heavy equipment operator, stating, “I’m kind of just in that mindset. I mean, just kind of get a job, go into a trade, make that money early.”

As Kyler Bourne prepares to graduate, he reflects on the legacy he leaves behind: “I want to be remembered as one of those teammates that brings you up, that turned around the ship from freshman to my senior year.”

With a steadfast focus on the future and an appreciation for his past, Kyler embodies what it means to be dedicated not just on the field, but in life. His story is one of perseverance, community, and true Bulldog spirit. As DJ Yokley eloquently wrapped up the interview, he noted, “You’ve been a bright and shining beacon for the younger generations to look up to.”

In every step Kyler takes, whether it’s on a sports field or in the excavator of his dreams, he’s sure to carry with him the support and pride of East Palestine. Congratulations to Kyler on all his achievements, and here’s to a future that’s as bright as his past has been inspiring.

EAGLES FLY OVER EP IN PITCHERS DUEL

HANOVERTON, OH— Despite a stellar outing from Cale Moraski, the East Palestine Bulldogs came up just short on Monday, falling 2-0 to United in a tight, low-scoring battle.

Moraski was dominant on the hill, striking out 11 batters and allowing just five hits and two runs over six innings without issuing a walk. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, two early unearned runs in the first inning — both coming off an error — proved to be the difference.

United’s Parker Newburn was just as impressive, going the distance and tossing a complete-game shutout. The righty allowed only two hits, walked two, and struck out 16 to earn the win.

Phoenix Marvin and Kyler Bourne each collected a hit for East Palestine, but the Bulldogs couldn’t string together enough offense to break through.

Offensively for United, Jackson drove in both runs, while Pratt and Schonauer each picked up two hits. United played clean defensively, committing no errors, with Swanson leading the way with 17 putouts behind the plate.

East Palestine will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they host United in a rematch.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN FOOTBALL COACH S CORNER (EP 4) WITH ANDY HAKE

YOUNGSTOWN, OH-– On the latest episode of YSN’s “Coach’s Corner,” host DJ Yokley sat down with Valley Christian’s head football coach, Andy Hake, to discuss the War Eagles’ recent victory over East Palestine and the growing synergy within the team.

Coach Hake, brimming with enthusiasm, reflected on the War Eagles’ hard-fought win against the physical and determined East Palestine Bulldogs. “Our fast start made the difference,” Hake noted, praising both teams for their competitive spirit. Despite being undersized, Hake credited his offensive line for their relentless blocking and quick adaptation to the game’s demands, leading standout player Ja’Sean Lindsey to an impressive performance.

The discussion highlighted the evolution of individual players, particularly Ja’Sean Lindsey, who, according to Hake, has emerged as a leader both on and off the field. “Kids need heroes, real heroes,” Hake emphasized, celebrating Lindsey’s maturity and leadership. The coach also showcased his deep appreciation for his team’s heart, applauding the efforts of underclassmen who have risen to the challenge.

Celebrating the War Eagles’ offensive prowess, DJ Yokley compared the team’s performance to a “Techmo Bowl light show.” The duo relived the thrilling moments when Lindsey scored four touchdowns, aided by quarterback Deion’s impeccable passing performance.

As Valley Christian gears up for their next bout against Wellsville, Hake remains focused and optimistic. He candidly discussed the importance of perspective and the mental aspect of sports. “You have to see yourself making plays in order to do it,” he said, advocating for strong sports psychology.

A touching moment came when Hake reflected on the opportunity to coach alongside his father, affectionately referred to as “the General.” Hake expressed immense gratitude, describing their collaboration as a blend of historical strategy and modern tactics.

The episode concluded with a glimpse into the future, as Hake voiced his belief in the spirit and potential of his team. “With a little bit of luck and guidance, we have a puncher’s chance,” he asserted, ready to face the challenges ahead with “humble hearts.”

BULLDOGS DONT SHARE, PALESTINE SECURES TOP SPOT IN EOAC

EAST PALESTINE OH- We are taught at an early age the values of sharing with others. It is a virtue in every walk of life, except athletics. East Palestine had already earned at least a share of their first league championship in program history, but no one wants to share on the basketball court. On Thursday, they had the opportunity to lock up sole possession of the top spot as they hosted Columbiana. If Columbiana won however, there would be four teams all with the same record at the top. The Bulldogs weren’t having that. Palestine left nothing to chance with a 65-47 victory over the Clippers, and earned the crown of the EOAC all to themselves.

Joclyn Fristik had a monster night for the Bulldogs leading the team with 25 points. Morgan Rutledge also had a strong performance chipping in 14 points to the Palestine offense. Patience Champney was also in double figures with 13 points.

Grace Witmer was a force on the night for Columbiana. She put in a game-high 31 points to lead the Clippers. Tori Long added 7 on the night.

East Palestine looks to take this momentum in to tournament play as they travel to Berkshire for a sectional championship on Saturday. Despite the loss, Columbiana is still alive and well in their bracket. They will meet up with fourth seeded Champion on Saturday in Warren for the chance to go to districts.

UNITED SQUEEZES PAST BULLDOGS

HANOVERTON- The United Golden Eagles were able to secure a close victory over East Palestine Tuesday night 64-60.

In a fantastic losing effort Jonathan Berovitch put in 30 points for the Bulldogs. The Eagles were able to survive Berovitch’s onslaught and earn their first win of the year inside the league.

Berovitch’s 30 was a game high, Brandon Tucola added 18 for the Bulldogs.

Keaton Baker finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 5 helpers as well as making a pair of free throws down the stretch to ice the game for the Eagles.

United will return to the floor Friday night as they travel to Lisbon.

East Palestine looks to bounce back Friday as they travel to Columbiana.
