REBELS OUTLAST BLUE DEVILS IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE

LISBON, OH – On a night where both teams were in search of a season turning win, it was the Crestview Rebels that traveled down to Lisbon and came home with a 49-43 victory over the Lisbon Blue Devils.

The two teams were almost perfectly matched with one another throughout the entire game as the lead for either team did not grow beyond 6 points up until the final quarter. The Rebels and Blue Devils both matched each other in the first quarter, 10-10. Lisbon then started off the second quarter with two quick scores but the Rebels chipped away and drew even once again at the half, 21-21. The third quarter saw the two squads battle it out and trade buckets, drawing even once again at the end of the third, 32-32. The final frame had the action everyone was waiting for as the Rebels turned up the defense and hit a few key shots in route to the victory.

The Crestview Rebels were led by Drake Golden who finished the night with 22 points on 9/12 shooting and 8 rebounds.

The Lisbon Blue Devils were led by Ryan McCullough with 16 points on 5/13 shooting and 5 rebounds.

Up next for Crestview is another road test, as they travel to Champion to take on the Golden Flashes on December 20th. The Lisbon Blue Devils will continue their homestand on December 17th, as they will welcome the Leetonia Bears to town in an EOAC match up.

LADY BEARS STUN EAST PALESTINE

LEETONIA, OH- The Lady Bears Basketball Team have heard all the hype about where teams will shake out win 2020, and on Thursday night, they added their name to the list of teams to keep an eye on.  Leetonia controlled the game from the tipoff against East Palestine and were able to run away with a 61-49 victory over their EOAC rivals.

Leetonia Senior Anna Buffone led the way with 14 points and kept her team composed throughout the night.  Buffone’s supporting cast consisted of Taran Ferry with a dozen points, and Ella Gregorino with 10, including some huge buckets down the stretch to keep the Lady Bulldogs at bay.  Perhaps the most impressive player on the court was sophomore Allison Francosky who battled her way to 13 points in the paint while keeping East Palestine shooting jumpers instead of working the lane.

The Bulldogs had four players in double figures including Payton Sherry, and Joclyn Fristik with 11 apiece while Patience Champney and Morgan Rutledge dialed in 10 each, respectively.  It was a tough night from the field for EP as they weren’t able to cash in a single bucket from outside the arc.  Something they’ve done better than most to start the year!

The Bears (2-3, 1-1) will now look to keep the flow going against Heartland Christian on December 19 with JV’s starting at 5:30.

East Palestine (2-3, 1-1) will match up with another EOAC team in Southern on Monday, December 16th around 7pm.  That game will be live on YSN from The Dog Pound.

STRONG FIRST HALF SETS THE TONE FOR LISBON’S WIN OVER LEETONIA

LEETONIA, OH – When looking at the EOAC for basketball, the team that starts off strong usually finishes in the top half of the conference when it’s all said and done. Both the Leetonia Bears and the Lisbon Blue Devils know how important it is to do just that, as both teams met for the first time in the 2019-2020 basketball season on Friday night.

The Blue Devils started off the game with a solid first quarter, leading 20-15. In the second quarter, Lisbon turned up the pressure and forced the Bears into some tough spots as the Blue Devils won the quarter 18-4, which pushed the Lisbon lead to 38-19 at the half. The second half saw Leetonia push back in the third quarter, as the score at the end of the third was 46-25. The fourth quarter was a defensive battle but the Bears just ran out of gas as Lisbon closed out the game with the 57-33 victory.

The Leetonia Bears were led by Jorden Baker who finished the night with 12 points on 3/6 shooting, as well as, Sefton Houlette with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

The Lisbon Blue Devils were led by Blayne Brownfield with 16 points, Michael Davis with 13 points, and Kaden Crawford with 6 points and 13 rebounds.

Up next for Leetonia is a home matchup with the Matthews Mustangs on December 12th. The Lisbon Blue Devils will return home in the next game on December 14th, as they welcome the Crestview Rebels to town.

BULLDOGS FIND NO PEACE IN PENNSYLVANIA

NEW CASTLE, PA- East Palestine went across the state border searching for their first victory, but unfortunately, they’re going to have to take a rain check.  The Bulldogs competed in the Mohawk Tip-Off Tournament where they were defeated 86-32 last night, and came up short this afternoon to Elwood City 76-40.

Sophomore standout Jonathan Bertovich plowed the way for EP with 19 points.  Brandon Turcola supplemented with 11 while Tyler Bistarkey had 3 and Evan Smith had 5.

For the Wolverines, Alex Roth had 13 points, Nate Coomfare had 12, and Ryan Gibbons had 9.  Elwood City did a superb job of spreading the wealth at the hoop as 10 players registered at least 3 tallies for the Wolverines.

East Palestine will have nearly a week to gather a game plan for EOAC foe, Leetonia.  That game will be played on Friday at Leetonia High School, with tip set for 7pm.

BLUE DEVILS COME UP A BIT SHORT; FALL TO EAST CANTON

EAST CANTON, OH – On a night where the Blue Devils needed to get off to a strong start and control the tempo to build confidence moving into EOAC play Friday; the Blue Devils jumped out to an 8-3 lead by the end of the first quarter. However, East Canton scrapped and battled back in the second quarter to cut the Lisbon lead to 24-20 at the half. Throughout the third quarter, the Blue Devils and Hornets both scratched and claw their way though it and at the end of the third, it was all tied up at 30. The fourth quarter proved to be much of the same, as the two teams battled hard all the way up until the end but unfortunately the Lisbon Blue Devils came up just a little short, 44-40.
