CANNONBALL COMING; RAIDERS MAKE SPLASH IN SECOND HALF TO BEAT BELLAIRE

CANFIELD, OH – On a cold November night, it took a while to get the motor running for South Range, but like a dependable ride-once the motor heated up, the Raider offense was a well-oiled machine.  Down 7-2 at halftime, South Range scored 28 unanswered in the second half to move on in the OHSAA Playoffs.

Bellaire struck first on the first drive of the game with a five-yard touchdown run. Their drive took nearly seven minutes off the first-quarter clock. South Range got on the board late in the first quarter, as Corey Kougher sacked Bellaire’s quarterback, Jake Heatherington, in the endzone for a safety, cutting the Big Reds lead to, 7-2. Both teams then continued the defensive battle in the second quarter as the halftime score was, 7-2, in Bellaire’s favor. The second half was a completely different game for the Raiders as they came out firing on all cylinders. Patrick McCabe scored the first touchdown for South Range in the third quarter on a five-yard run. Michael Patrone then hit Trey Pancake on a 49-yard touchdown pass, making the score 16-7 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was all Raiders as Patrone hit Dylan Dominguez on a 31-yard touchdown strike. Dominguez closed out the night with a 38-yard touchdown run, as the Raiders won tonight, 30-7.

South Range was led through the air by Michael Patrone with 14 completions on 22 attempts for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Raiders were led on the ground by Dylan Dominguez with 16 carries for 122 yards and 1 touchdown. South Range’s top receivers were Trey Pancake with 2 reception for 56 yards and a touchdown, Ian Toy with 3 reception for 39 yards, and Dylan Dominguez with 1 reception for 31 yards and a touchdown. The Raiders were paced on defense by Luke Blasko with 7 tackles and Corey Kougher with 6.5 tackles and 2 sacks.

With the victory, South Range will advance to the next round where they will meet up with #1 seed, Kirtland.

THE PRAYING MARANTIS

WARREN, OH- Adversity is defined as a set of difficulties or misfortune.  For Warren JFK Senior Quarterback, Christian Marantis, he’s taken that definition- and turned it upside down.

The senior slinger for the Eagles has battled through injury this year to make his way back onto the field and now intends on staying on it for another week- or five.  A young man that can’t help but smile for what he’s been through is as humble as they come.  He’s put the work in, and now he wants to cash in for the reward of the efforts for his team.

Though his rehab, hard-work, and determination will get him along, he knows it’ll take more to get him where he wants to go.  After all: the answer is right in his name.

The Eagles are in the playoffs for the fifth straight year, and Marantis has been a strong part of each of those seasons, but he knows there’s more to life than football.  We caught up with Christian in this week’s Warren JFK Player Profile: THE PRAYING MARANTIS.

YES, HE CAM!

WARREN, OH- You’re familiar with the term “Jack of all trades, master of none?”  Well, imagine if you had an individual who was so team-oriented that he would give up his favorite position in order to suit the team, and help win games.  All the while becoming a “Jack of most trades, master of all.”

Let us introduce you to the Kennedy Swiss Army Knife- Cam Hollobaugh.

Just a junior, Hollobaugh’s student-athlete portfolio is so diversified that people literally see him everywhere they go.  From the school news network (WJFK) to posters, commercials, media interviews, basketball court, baseball diamond, and of course…the football field.  Hollobaugh is preparing himself for anything life can throw at him, but right now he’s having the time of his life with his closest friends, and coaches- chasing a D7 State Championship.

He leaves everyone around him saying he can do anything he puts his mind to, and coincidentally, he does it at a high level.

We caught up with the ol’ 9’er in this week’s Warren JFK Player Profile: YES HE CAM!

KING OF THE HILL

WARREN, OH- When a Head Football Coach is searching for his ideal football team, many think it begins with “skilled players.”  However, all the experienced coaches know that your backs aren’t worth a hill of beans if you don’t have the talent up front to protect and clear the way.

When you talk to Kennedy Head Coach Jeff Bayuk, his eyes light up and his smile widens when talking about the pure talent and work ethic that comes along with his senior starting tackle, Earl Hill.  Hill has been the anchor of this offensive and defensive line and has created quite the name for himself at the next level in regard to his size and ability, and that doesn’t even begin to consider his outstanding demeanor.

When you talk to Hill, he’s a young man who looks you straight in the eye.  Answers questions with enthusiasm, and excitement.  You can tell that he loves what he is doing.

We sat down with Earl for this week’s Warren JFK Player Profile: KING OF THE HILL.

ONLY ONE SAVONE

WARREN, OH- “I want them to know it’s more than just football, it’s about family.”  Those would be impactful words by a professional athlete at the highest level of competition.  However, those words came from a high school senior.  A young man who is wise beyond his years, and the awareness that he has at such a young age makes him unique, but a name you will want to remember for years to come:

Savone.

Savone Williamson is a team guy, he’s a family guy, and when Saturday’s game rolls around in Week 11, the Eagles are hoping he is going to be THE guy.

Williamson has proved his worth all season being a reliable receiver, and a true leader on and off the field.  We caught up with the senior receiver prior to the Independence game to discuss his role models, his love for his school, and who he’s looking to for advice prior to the game.

Sit back and get ready for Eagles football on YSN by warming up with our Warren JFK Player Profile: ONLY ONE SAVONE.

LESS IS MORE FOR RAIDERS

CANFIELD, OH- On every team, in every school-there is one person.  A person who views things from a different lens.  A person who is a “teamer.”  One individual who does not take what they have earned for granted.  A point of light to which coaching staff can point to and say, we need more of “this guy or girl.”

In South Range.  Isaac Less is that person.

A young man who put in his time and earned his stripes while putting personal goals to the side for the betterment of his team, his family, and his teammates.

Less is a senior who is cherishing every minute he’s competing on the offensive line.  He loves being around his friends, and even more so, loves standing side-by-side and defending the honor that it is the wear the burgundy and gold.  You can ask anybody inside the four walls of South Range High School, Isaac Less is as good as they come when it comes to respect, honor, and integrity.

We sat down with the Raider tackle to discuss this year, his path, and where he wants to continue after his days are done at the Range.  We proudly present this week’s YSN South Range Player Profile: Less is More at South Range.

WARREN JFK COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JEFF BAYUK

It’s been an incredible year for Coach Jeff Bayuk and the Kennedy Eagles, and for the fifth consecutive season, the Eagles fly into coveted Week 11.  However, 2019 looks to be different for the #BluePride, and there’s a bit of swagger with the boys this year.

This year feels a bit different as if just showing up to the postseason party isn’t quite enough.  There’s more to be had.

We caught up with Coach Bayuk who is celebrating his 200 wins and counting in 2019, and a D7 State Title wouldn’t look too bad on the mantle to cap the year off.

Check in with the Eagles on this edition of Warren JFK Coach’s Corner with Jeff Bayuk!

SOUTH RANGE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 11) WITH DAN YEAGLEY

Coach Dan Yeagley and the South Range Raiders knew going into their week ten match up with the Hubbard Eagles was a “win and you’re in” situation. The Raiders took full advantage of that mindset and defeated the Eagles 36-16. Week eleven will be game one of the 2019 OHSAA State Football Playoffs and South Range will host the Bellaire Big Reds on Saturday night.

YSN’s own, D.J. Yokley, caught up with Coach Yeagley this week to discuss the first round of the playoffs and to get his take on what the Raiders need to do to win and advance into the next round.
