SPRINGFIELD FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH SEAN GUERRERO

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Not too many teams in the state can say they are coming off back to back trips to the State Championship game. Springfield is in that boat. The Tigers are riding a wave of excitement as they look to make it three trips in a row to the final game of the year, and hopefully take home the big trophy this time around.

The Tigers certainly lost some key pieces to last year’s team, but they also return a ton of experience. The Tigers are a very senior led team. No Senior shines brighter in the eyes of the local fan base than Beau Brungard. The Mr Football candidate looks to lead the Tigers under center to another big season. The Tigers open the season Friday night against South Range at home. It is the return of a heated rivalry that every fan in the area is anticipating.

Head coach Sean Guerriero took the time to join YSN’s Running Point this week to preview the Tigers 2021 season. He talks with Anthony and Ty about their seniors, the community at Springfield and so much more. Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Sean Guerriero is live!

TIGERS WIN DEFENSIVE GRUDGE MATCH WITH NILES

NILES OH- On the opening night of High School football, The Howland Tigers traveled to Niles to face off against their rival, The Niles Mckinley Red Dragons. The game was dominated by Howland running back Matt Womer. Womer ran up and down the field all night for the Tigers and set up two field goal attempts which were made by kicker Ashleigh Macias. Macias’s field goals put the Tigers up 6-0 and thats the way it stayed all night with the Howland defense being no match for the Niles Mckinley Red Dragons. The Red Dragons were led by third string quarterback, Kristopher Hrosar. Hrosar came in relief after starting quarterback, Andrew Huffman, and back up quarterback, Roberto Merlo, were injured. The Howland Tigers look for their second win of the season next friday night at home vs Ravenna as the Red Dragons will travel to Alliance next friday to face off against the Aviators, looking for their first win on the season.

LABRAE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JOHN ARMENI

LEVITTSBURG OH- The last week before the start of the regular season in high school football is like the calm before the storm. And believe us, LaBrae’s offensive unit can absolutely be described as a storm. The Vikings return nearly everyone from a offense that averaged over 35 points per game last season. That includes their star quarterback Aidan Stephens who committed to Yale before the start of the season.

Vikings head coach John Armeni says this team is as close as ever. If he had to give the offense a nickname, it would be the fun bunch. LaBrae is at its best when they are playing loose and free. Although coach Armeni does see his team being just as dynamic on offense, he would love to see improvement on the other side of the ball. He specifically pointed out the Vikings ability to stop the run, and how important that would be.

Coach Armeni was kind enough to hop on to YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about the upcoming season. He chats with Anthony Hartwig and Ty Bartell about his leaders, his coaching staff, and much more. You won’t want to miss this exclusive interview. Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with John Armeni is live!

SALEM STORMS OUT OF THE GATE

COLUMBIANA OH- The 2021 edition of the Salem Quaker football team scored early and often in the first half, taking a 35-0 lead into halftime against Crestview, en route to a 38-13 opening night win on Thursday night.

Junior quarterback Jackson Johnson led the way for the Quaker offense going 18-27 for 260 yards through the air, and 3 touchdowns to 3 different receivers. His favorite target, Senior Blaize Exline hauled in 11 of those throws for 120 yards and a score. Brock Young and Austin Sinkovich had the other two touchdown receptions.

On the ground, the Quakers were led by Sophomore Dominic Maniscalco who carried the ball seven times for 88 yards in his first full time varsity action. Exline contributed another 45 yards on the ground and two scores.

Salem moves to 1-0 on the young season, and will return home next Friday night to take on Beaver Local at Sebo Stadium.

CHANEY FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH CHRIS AMILL

YOUNGSTOWN OH- With the Chaney football program back in action along with some other Steel Valley teams, the Youngstown football scene seems back to normal. The Cowboys are coming off a season that you have to look close at to see how much development they showed. Head coach Chris Amill would be the first to tell you how much better his team got from week 1 to the final game.

Now the Cowboys get a chance to prove how much they have grown as a squad. Returning excellent leaders on both sides of the ball, we can promise you that Chaney will be no slouch. A very hard schedule will sharpen their teeth as they’ll fight tooth and nail with old school rivals to secure a playoff spot.

Coach Amill was kind enough to join YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about the season ahead with Anthony Hartwig and Ty Bartell. They discuss the Cowboys returning starters, the Youngstown football tradition, and much more. Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Chris Amill is live!
