LAKEVIEW REMAINS UNBEATEN AFTER BATTLE WITH RAIDERS

CANFIELD OH- Lakeview has owner the NE8 over the past three seasons, and their dominance continued with a four set win over South Range on Tuesday (25-22 25-19 22-25 25-21).

The Raiders fought hard throughout the night against a Lakeview team that came into the match only dropping four sets total all season. The Raiders had momentum in set one, as Lakeview took some time to find a rhythm. However, a late 4-0 run gave the Bulldogs just enough room to squeak past the Raiders in set one 25-22.

Set two was where Lakeview really showed their strength. Setter Maggie Pavlansky made a bunch of aggressive attacks on the second touch to keep the Raiders defense off balance. Senior Anna Peterson also stepped up huge in set two getting the clutch points when her team needed them.

The Raiders really bounced back nicely and controlled most of the third set. Their defense kept Peterson quiet. The blocking and strong swings of Izzy Lamparty stood out for South Range. The Raiders had a 21-14 lead in the set, but Lakeview would not go away. The Raiders took the set, but the Bulldogs got back on their feet and took momentum in to set four.

That momentum carried straight into set four as the Bulldogs took a 7-1 lead early. The Raiders kept up the fight though, after Maria Primavera had to leave the court due to injury, Jami Stachowicz rattled off five kills the rest of the set to fill in. With the Raiders closing in fast, Peterson came up with a pair of clutch kills to take Lakeview to a match sealing set four win 25-22.

Peterson led the Bulldogs in kills with 13. Pavlansky set well and finished the match with 31 assists. Libero Maddie Bayus played well collecting 25 digs.

Izzy Lamparty led the Raiders in her senior night with 13 kills. Bri Hiner caused Lakeview all kinds of trouble with her serve and gathered 3 aces. Reagan Irons dug up 28 digs. Sarah Kuhn’s and Jamie Feren both finished with 11 assists.

Lakeview remains undefeated at 8-0 and will start the second half of NE8 play on Thursday traveling to Hubbard. The Eagles are the only team to take Lakeview to five sets this season. South Range will look to snap their three match losing streak Wednesday traveling to Mooney.

POTTERS SHINE IN SATURDAY MATINEE

CANFIELD OH- With a big conference matchup with Lakeview looming, South Range looked to sharpen up outside of the conference. East Liverpool brought more than the Raiders could handle however, as they dominated a sweep (25-22 25-20 25-17).

The Potters proved resilient all day. Every time the Raiders string together points, Liverpool would not panic and answer right back limiting the damage. That tenacity was in full show in set one when the Raiders had a 21-17 lead late in the set. Calm cool, and collected East Liverpool responded and grabbed a 23-22 lead, and finished to win the set 25-22.

More of the same thing happened in set two when the Raiders jumped out to a 5-1 lead to start set one, but East Liverpool once again fought right back to tie, and eventually push ahead. They’d go on to win set two 25-20, and use a strong start to cruise in set three 25-17.

Sharnae Wilson was everywhere on the day. She finished with 16 kills and 4 blocks. Addison Galeoti played some under the radar defense collecting a solid 24 digs. Alexa Aldrich showed off her range as a setter and finished with 18 assists.

RAIDERS TAKE THE NEXT STEP

CUYAHOGA FALLS OH- The South Range Girls Basketball program made their fourth trip to the Cuyahoga Falls regional in seven seasons. The program was never able to win a game in the Tigers gym. The key to building a great program though is to keep going back to the atmosphere and eventually taking that next step. Wednesday night the Raiders took that step. They dominated the second half in route to a 47-25 win over Champion,

The Raiders could not have asked for a better start. They forced three straight turnovers that led to 6 points. This spurt really set the tone for the whole night. Champion was no slouch on defense either though. They forced the Raiders into a ton of turnovers. The Raiders led 13-9 after a turnover riddled frame from both teams. The story stayed the same throughout the second quarter. Both teams played solid defense and forced the other into uncharacteristic mistakes. The Raiders were only able to score eight points in the second quarter, but it was enough to maintain a five point lead at the break 21-16.

The third quarter is when the separation began for the Raiders. They kept holding the Flashes, and their offense made adjustments to get more points up. The Raiders outscored Champion 17-7 in the third to go up 38-23. Then in the fourth, the Raider defense was smothering, allowing just two points the whole frame. Defense definitely wrote the story for the Raiders impressive win. They only allowed nine total second half points. They also stayed away from foul trouble. They didn’t put Champion in the bonus in either half.

This is the first South Range basketball team boys or girls to go to the regional championship.

Izzy Lamparty led the Raiders with 20 points. Lexi Giles has a strong night as well finishing with 13.

South Range advances to play Elyria Catholic in the Regional Championship on Saturday at 1:00 at Cuyahoga Falls High School.

RAIDERS BACK ON TOP IN DISTRICTS

STRUTHERS OH- South Range came in to Saturday’s district championship with two dominant tournament wins under their belt. The same theme rang true for the Raiders as they controlled Crestview 48-32 for their fourth district championship in the last 7 seasons.

The first quarter was competitive as the Rebels worked hard on defense to keep the Raiders in check. Stopping Izzy Lamparty was a must for them, and in the first quarter she only hit a single bucket from the floor. Addison Bandy knocked down a three and scored 5 points in the first frame as the Rebels only trailed 13-9.

It was only a matter of time though before the Raiders offense found open looks against the Rebel zone. In the second quarter the dam broke and Lexi Giles was a big reason. Giles knocked down three triples in the second quarter and Gabby Lamparty knocked down another two. The Raiders exploded out to a 34-14 halftime lead.

Down twenty at the break was a tough task for the Rebels. They fought hard all throughout the second half to at least stop the bleeding. Krista Perry finally got going in the fourth scoring 5 of her 6 total points. The Raiders were just too much to come back from as they rolled in this one 48-32.

Lexi Giles led the Raiders with 16 points while Gabby Lamparty had a strong day with 12. Izzy Lamparty found herself still in double figures with 10.

Tanner Hoffer led the Rebels with 13, 6 of which came in the final frame.

South Range advances to the regional semifinals on Wednesday night at Cuyahoga Falls High School. Start time is set for 6:15.

RAIDERS GROUND COLUMBIANA

STRUTHERS OH- South Range got three scorers in double figures on their way to a dominant 58-28 win over Columbiana on Wednesday night.

The Raiders has an electric first hatter. Thanks in part to the Lamparty sisters. Gabby and Izzy combined for the first 7 points of the contest. The Clippers struggled to guard Izzy all night. The Raiders held a 17-7 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter was when the Raiders stormed ahead. They outscored the Clippers 15-5 in the frame. Those 5 Columbiana points also came in the first minutes of the quarter, so the Raiders ended the half on a 13-0 run.

The second half brought more of the same story. Columbiana just couldn’t find enough consistent scoring to make a comeback attempt, A big boost for the Raiders defense was holding the Clippers leading scorer Kayla Muslovski scoreless in the game.

South Range was led by Izzy Lamparty with 20 points. Bree Kohler had a tremendous night adding 15. Lexi Giles was also in double figures with 14.

Columbiana was led by both Grace Witmer and Grace Hammond with 8 a piece.

South Range advances to the district championship game Saturday night against Crestview. The tip is slated for 7:00 at Struthers.
