JAYS KEEP THE PARTY GOING

NORTH JACKSON OH- Last season the Blue Jays only had two wins, but in 20222, they have rebounded winning their first three games of the season as coach Nathan Brode and the Jackson Milton Blue Jays hosted the LaBrae Vikings Friday night.

Both teams were scoreless in the first quarter but the blue jays would be on the move.  Star quarterback Alex Schiavi threw a screen pass making it 7-0.  Later on a little trickery as Schiavi pitched it behind his back to Owen McDevitt who found Aidan Stanke wide open for a touchdown making it 14-0 going into the half.

Milton would just keep on running up the score in the second half as Joey Zayas took it in for a 15-yard touchdown, now up 21-0.  Schiavi’s final two touchdowns was him doing an old style drop back on the goaline, finding Stanke in the back of the endzone and him taking it himself making the final 34-0.  The Vikings of LaBrae had four chances in the Redzone in the first half, but were stopped by Cayden Mitchell and the talented defense of Jackson Milton.

LaBrae (0-3) has now lost their first three games since 2012 and will host Mahoning Valley Grey Tier conference Garretsville Garfield (2-1) who lost by one point to Warren JFK (22-21) next week.  Jackson Milton (3-0) will travel to Berlin Center Ohio to take on a Mahoning Valley Scarlet Division rival Western Reserve (1-2) 7pm Friday.

After the game, Ian O’Brien caught up with head coach Nathan Brode on the big win and what to expect for next week’s game.

JACKSON-MILTON COACH’S CORNER (EP.1) WITH NATHAN BRODE

North Jackson, OH- Last season was tough for head coach Nathan Brode and his Blue Jays of
Jackson Milton, who finished with a record of two and seven. A big change was needed in the
off-season and that change was in the weight room. In week one, the Blue Jays blew
out rival Leetonia 55-0 with the air-raid man at quarterback in Alex Schiavi. The senior threw for
seven touchdowns, which was a school record.
Schiavi capped that off with a two touchdown performance against Newton Falls as Milton won 16 to
14, shutting down the running game, which has been the main key for the Tigers this season.
Milton was originally scheduled to play Windham, but will now play LaBrae for the first meeting between
these two teams in the 2000’s.
On this episode of the Jackson Milton Coaches Corner, Brode talks to YSN’s
Ian O’Brien about the schedule change, the players who have stepped up, and the turn around in
the off-season. Jackson Milton (2-0) will host the LaBrae Vikings (0-2) 7pm at
Jackson Milton’s community stadium.

JACKSON MILTON BEATS THE WEATHER AND THE LIONS

NORTH JACKSON OH- Monday, August 29, after the storms rolled out, the Blue Jays hosted Heartland Christian and brought the thunder.  The Jays started with Ian Stewart, Keagan Beck and Nathan Corll in front of Brady Cole.  The midfield consisted of Ben Moore, Carter Graham, James Croyle, Zach Koontz and Alex Rotuna.  Kylee Fetkovich and Brock Piatt started up front. The Blue Jays have had an extremely long week having 4 varsity and 3 JV games in the past 7 days.  Luckily the storms brought a slightly cool breeze to help calm the humidity! A partly cloudy sky made the evening more enjoyable for everyone.

Within the first 2 minutes the Jays earned a corner kick opportunity.   Kylee Fetkovich took a well placed kick, Alex Rotuna finds the ball and has to battle some Lions to get the shot off, first goal of the evening!  10 minutes later, the Jays were possessing in the midfield when the sequence of success began; Carter Graham passed to Kylee, who found Alex inside the box for another Blue Jay goal!  The Blue Jays outshot the Lions 16 shots to two.  Brady Cole and James Croyle each had one save in goal.  Ben Moore went unchallenged.

Overall, the game was pretty clean with good calls by the officials.  Jackson-Milton subbed several players from the bench including, Brandon Hinkle, Dom Verquer, Joe Modarelli, Caden Allen, Anthony Chance and Aiden Aandewiel

Another shutout by the Blue Jays!  Defensively they are working together well and the midfield is doing a very nice job of rotating back during transitions, especial Carter Graham and James Croyle who have been working very well together.

The Blue Jays have no games this week, due to the Canfield Fair.  The team and coaches want to wish Caden Allen, Anthony Chance, & Carter Graham best of luck with their 4H competitions, as well as the soccer-band members who will be performing there on Thursday.

Jackson-Milton takes on in-conference opponent Crestview (2021 State Runner Up) when they return to play Wednesday, September 7 at 5pm at the JMHS Soccer Stadium.

BLUE JAYS WIN THRILLER AT HOME

JACKSON MILTON, OH- Blue Jay country hosted one of the best MVAC games in week number two. The Jackson Milton Blue Jays hosted the Newton Falls Tigers to remain unbeaten in week number two. The Blue Jays and the Tigers went down to the wire in the final quarter, but Jackson Milton had a crucial pick down the stretch to win it 16-14.

Jackson Milton came out of the gate with an 80 yard drive to get on the board first. Inside the five yard line, Cayden Mitchell caught a pass out in the flats, and scored to make it 7-0 Jackson Milton. Later on in the first half, the Blue Jays defense put up a safety to begin the second quarter, increasing the lead to 9-0. The Tigers would answer in the second quarter with an 80 yard touchdown reception by wide out Jacob Kline, to pull within two points.

It was a one possession lead for Jackson Milton entering the fourth quarter, until the Blue Jays punched it in the end zone with an 11 yard touchdown reception by Aiden Stanke. The Tigers trailed 16-7 with less than 10 minutes in the game, until Newton Falls quarterback Alex Pennington broke out a big run down the sideline for a 45 yard touchdown.

With three minutes left to play trailing 16-14, the Newton Falls defense forced a punt at midfield. The Tigers were forced to throw the football with no timeouts remaining, and the Blue Jays defense capitalized. Jackson Milton defensive back Owen McDevitt picked a pass off and took it inside the Newton Falls 20 yard line to seal the victory. Jackson Milton improved to 2-0 with the victory, while Newton Falls drops to 1-1.
