BLUE DEVILS RUN WILD ON MATHEWS

LISBON, OH- If you were waiting for Lisbon to break out offensively in 2020, let this serve as your notice.  The Blue Devils are woke and harnessed the Mustangs 38-14.

In a regular-season contest, Lisbon hosted Mathews and it took exactly one kick to showcase the ability of Ryan McCullough.  “Peanut” gripped the pigskin on the opening kickoff and housed it from goal line to goal line (100 yards) to give Lisbon the lead for good.  However, McCullough’s night was far from over as he would add scores from 9 yards, and 35 yards away to give him the hat-trick on the night.  Logan Stauffer would also chip in a pair of scores for the Blue Devils.  McCullough finished with 83 yards on 6 rushes, while Stauffer scampered 51 yards on his only carry.

Dominic Frazzini and Xander Gedeon were the lone scorers for Mathews.  Frazzini caught a pass from Alex Schiavi from 43 yards out, and Gedeon had a 4th quarter TD run from 72 yards away.

Lisbon (2-6) moved the chains 12 times during the game and totaled 227 yards.

Brooke VanGiesen led the Devils with 11 kills on the night. Justyce Vrable finished with 9 kills. Eliza Baker ran the offense to perfection setting up 22 assists. McKenna Dailey has 19 digs to lead Lisbon’s defense.

Lisbon finishes the regular season at 6-15 and will now await the winner of Newton Falls and Bloomfield for their first tournament match. The location of that match will be determined by the outcome of the first match.

BLUE DEVILS PUSHED OUT OF POSTSEASON

PLYMOUTH, OH- It was the unorthodox offense of Plymouth that ended up being the difference in Lisbon advancing to the second week of the 2020 OHSAA Postseason.

The Blue Devil offense was effective at points but just failed to find consistency on Friday.  Ryan McCullough rushed the ball 7 times for 50 yards, while Tyler Welsh took the bulk of totes with 14, mustering up 26 yards and a score.  Jacob Grodhaus found the endzone on his lone carry from 3 yards away.

Lisbon ran for 108 yards as a team and threw for 58 while picking up 12 first downs along the way.  The Devils were pretty clean other than an interception, and 47 yards against for penalties.

At the time of this post, there is no update on week 8 for the Blue Devils.

VALLEY VICTORIOUS IN DEFENSIVE STRUGGLE

LISBON OH- Neither offense on Friday night between Lisbon and Valley and Christian was flashy. The game was scoreless heading into halftime, and two Valley touchdowns were enough to win it in the second half 12-7.

Joey Batista found TrayVonne Clark for a 23 yard touchdown pass to put the Eagles on the board. Lisbon blocked the extra point to keep the Eagles at 6. Malachi Gibbs added a three run power run into the promise line for Valley’s next touchdown. The PAT was missed to keep Lisbon in the game.

Tyler Welsh Gabe Lisbon the hope they needed with a late 16 yard touchdown run to bring the score to 12-7. Lisbon couldn’t manage to get the ball back though, and that would be the final score.
