BLAYNE’S WORLD

LISBON, OH – The Lisbon Blue Devils basketball team is a unique mesh of freshman talent, hungry juniors, and most of all great senior leadership. The senior class has been compared to a second coaching staff on the floor as they are able to control a game and understand the little things as games progress. One such senior, Blayne Brownfield, has been in this spot before as he was looked upon as a leader last year as well. This season, Brownfield has been able to lead with experience and a stoic calmness throughout the season. Because of that composure, Blayne and the Blue Devils are currently 8-2 overall and 5-0 in EOAC conference play!

Brownfield, currently ten games into his senior season, is someone who prides himself on being able to lead by example on the court. When Lisbon needs a bucket, he is able to get something going for the team. If its a close game, Blayne is always the vocal leader to rally the team and get everyone in the right spots defensively to make a big stop. On the season, Blayne is averaging 22.7 points per game while shooting 46.7% from the field, 40% from behind the arc, and 81% from the free throw line, as well as averaging 7.3 rebounds per game.

Not only does he lead through his game on the court, he is also able to lead in the classroom and in the community. Although Blayne gets a lot of credit for the team’s success, he is always the first to say it is a team effort and build up his teammates instead of take credit for himself. Brownfield has embodied the win first mentality and is not afraid to put in the work to build the team.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, had the opportunity to talk with Blayne via video chat this week to talk about his current senior season, how COVID has effected him and this season on the court, what his plans are for after high school, a rapid-fire question session to see what makes Blayne the player and person he is, and so much more!
