RAIDERS HOIST THE COLORS AGAINST STRUTHERS

STRUTHERS, OH- Friday night was a big night for the Raider football program. With a win, they keep their playoff hopes alive, but a loss would all but end their hopes. Standing in front of them was a high powered offense in the Struthers Wildcats.

The Raiders took the opening drive down the field and looked to be in a good position to score first, but then the turn over bug struck. Isaac Allegretto dropped back and threw a pass to the sidelines and was intercepted for a pick-six. The extra point was blocked, so the Wildcats had just a 6-0 lead. But the lead would not last for long. The Raider offense would drive again all the way down the field for a touchdown. The Raiders would take the lead on the extra point, and the scoring began. The teams would exchange blows all night. The Raiders would score, then the Wildcats would score. The largest lead by any team was 8 when the Raiders took that into halftime. Struthers scored after halftime on a 69-yard run by QB, Aiden Hall.  The ‘Cats would go for 2 and get it to tie things at 35.  The Raiders would be able to get a stop on a failed fourth-down conversion by Struthers. They turned that into points and regained the lead, which they never relinquished. Both teams would score one more time but the Raiders closed things out with a 49-42 win.

The standout for the Wildcats was Big Dog of the Valley winner, Aiden Hall. He finished with 197 yards rushing and 2 TD’s on 14 carries. Hall also was 4-10 with 135 yards through the air and 2 touchdown strikes. Adding to the offense was Adrian Brown who rushed for 120 yards and 1 score. The Raiders offense was well balanced. Isaac Allegretto led the way with 216 yards passing with 2 TD’s, and 40 yards on the ground with 2 scores. Dylan Dominquez lead all Raider rushers with 139 yards and 2 scores.

The Raiders return home next week for Senior Parent night vs Hubbard Eagles. Raiders need a win to secure a place in the playoffs in Div 5. Struthers goes on the road to Poland for an important game for them as well, as both teams are jockeying for position in Div 4. Wildcats and Raiders are both sitting 7th in the computer rankings and could use a win next week to be in position to see week 11.

THERE’S NO LINE LIKE THIS O-LINE

HUBBARD, OH- It’s been an unbelievable year on the campus of Hubbard High School this season, the Eagles are flying high into their matchup with the NE8 Leading Poland Bulldogs this week!  However, as every football fan knows, the team only goes as far as the offensive line will take you.

For the Eagles, it’s been the difference between a dream season, and an average year.

YSN’s Anthony Romo caught up with a couple of likeable lineman for Hubbard in Matt Scheidegger and Reese Best to discuss the season so far, and the opportunity at hand this week.  Because after all, There’s No Line Like This O-Line.

NOT YOUR AVERAGE JOE

HUBBARD, OH- It’s a special night in Eagleville tonight as the Eagles will do battle with NE8 rival AND Conference Leader, Poland.  It could be the last time the Eagles Class of 2020 step on their home turf, but then, it could also be a turning point for the program.

One of the cornerstones of the Hubbard Eagles for the last three years has been Joe Langley, the Junior standout is motivated to leave a legacy for others to follow while raising the banner in Hubbard on his way out the door.

YSN’s Kobe Krisuk caught up with Langley this afternoon to discuss the upcoming matchup, and his thoughts on the season to this point in this week’s YSN Hubbard Player Profile: NOT YOUR AVERAGE JOE.

HUBBARD DOES JUST ENOUGH AGAINST NILES

NILES, OH- The Eagles (5-2) stumbled into Bo Rein Stadium off a last-second loss to the Girard Indians (5-2). After dropping the season opener at Mount Union to Alliance (4-3) 13-17, Hubbard was able to rally off five straight wins, most notably beating Howland (4-3) 22-16 in overtime, as well as Struthers (5-2) 22-16 on the road in week 4, before losing last week on a last-second field goal that put Girard ahead 16-14 with just four seconds remaining. On the other side of the field, the hosting Niles Red Dragons (5-2) also came into tonight off a loss. After winning their first four games of the season, the Dragons got handled by the Poland Bulldogs (5-2) at home 31-7, before squeaking out a victory against South Range (4-3) in overtime 35-34, then got blown out on the road against Struthers, 42-14.

The Niles Red Dragons were the first to draw blood on their senior night. After a halfback wheel from junior Quarterback Zack Leonard to senior running back David Mays, paired with the yardage of a horse collar penalty to put the Red Dragons in striking position, junior Kicker Chase Sudzina would put one through the uprights from 34 yards out, giving Niles a 3-0 lead. The ensuing Eagle possession would result in their third straight three and out to open the game. But after a muffed punt from the Red Dragons, the Eagles offense suddenly had life. Taking over at the Red Dragon 45 yard-line, the Eagles drove down the field in 11 plays and would cap off the drive with a two-yard touchdown run from junior back-up Quarterback Kobe Krisuk, putting the Eagles in front 7-3 after the extra point from junior Chase Powell with a little more than 2 minutes left in the first quarter. A missed field goal for Hubbard and a Niles take away in Eagle territory would highlight the rest of the first half. With a little under a minute left, the Red Dragons were unable to score despite taking over at the Hubbard 32 yard-line, keeping the score 7-3 at the break.

The Red Dragons opened the second half with the ball. After a good kick return, and a first down, Niles was knocking on Hubbard’s 40-yard line. The Red Dragon’s drive would stale after Leonard missed his receiver Sudzina open twice on the same playback to back. Hubbard would take over at their own 34-yard line and took no time to pick up where they left off. For the Eagles, the Quarterback run proved killer as they dominated the line of scrimmage, and consistently let the play clock roll all the way down to just 8 seconds remaining. Hubbard needed only 9 plays and a little under 4 minutes to get all the way into the red zone before capping off their drive with a 2 yard TD run from senior Tommy Wess on the final score of the night to extend the Eagles lead, 14-3.

Kobe Krisuk used tonight as a showcase for what is to come next season with senior Cameron Resatar graduating. Krisuk, filling in for the injured Resatar, finished the night with 117 yards rushing on 31 carries. Krisuk also would add 6 completion on 11 attempts for 58 yards through the air. Hubbard improves to (6-2) and will host the Poland Bulldogs at home next week in a battle atop Region 13. Niles (5-3) looks to bounce back next week against the struggling Lakeview Bulldogs on the road.

RAIDERS SPOIL LAKEVIEW HOMECOMING

CORTLAND, OH- The Raiders came into week 8 needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. They were able to do that with a 35-0 win over the Lakeview Bulldogs. Friday was Homecoming for the Bulldogs, but the Raiders were able to spoil those festivities. The Raiders took the opening drive right down the field and score. And the Raiders didn’t look back. They were able to hold the Bulldog offense to less than 100 total yards.

The Raiders were able to dominate on both sides of the ball. The offense put up 383 total yards. Isaac Alegretto finished 13-29 for 192 yards and 2 TD’s. He rushed for 42 yards as well. South Range Sophomore Dylan Dominguez added 2 scores on the ground and one through the air  Patrick McCabe led the ground game with 86 yards. Luke Blasko caught 1 pass for a 34 yard TD.

The Raiders continue the playoff push next week when they take on Struthers at Belichick Field.

THE LAST LINE OF DEFENSE

HUBBARD, OH- Overall it’s been a great year for the Hubbard Eagles on the Soccer field.  The Birds have flown their way to a winning record and are looking to make waves in the postseason.  An offensive juggernaut that has scored 70 goals and has won games with their firepower is impressive, to say the least.  Make no mistake, though.  Hubbard only giving up 26 goals has been where they have made their hay while the sun shines on them.

A major reason behind the goal separation is goalkeeper John Reinard.

Reinard is a leader that gets it done on and off the pitch.  Our team over at YSN Hubbard had a chance to catch up with the Eagle netminder to discuss this year’s team, as well as what his interests are off the field.
