LOWERY AND BEHOLD

A transfer student in 8th grade, Jordan Lowery has come a long way in his development.  First from the standpoint of patience for his turn, and secondly to be able to capture the moment when the spotlight is on him.

Make no mistake about it- Jordan didn’t miss his moment.

In fact, Jordan has created several moments this season from a leadership perspective that he may not be able to yet understand the ripple he’s created for his underclass teammates.  Lowery is the keynote example of a young man who does what is asked-and beyond.  Going the extra mile because it’s not a crowded road is the belief of South Range’s #58.

MESS WITH THE ‘BESS, FALL LIKE THE REST

They say the four years in high school go by in the blink of an eye.  For South Range Senior Jenna Barbessi, she still doesn’t feel like her senior year has arrived.  In fact, she still feels like she is a freshman.

Unfortunately for her opponents, she plays like a senior!  She brings the veteran presence to the Raiders squad that helps them battle through adversity, and continue to churn out wins left and right.  Jenna steps in and continues to fill up the stat sheet across the book for the burgundy and gold.

GIRARD FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH PAT PEARSON (EP 1)

It’s been a good jump to the year for the Indians of Girard, and leading them once again is Pat Pearson who looks to take advantage of the weapons at his disposal this year!

A tough loss against a large and in-charge Marlington team gives the South Range team a chip on their shoulder heading into game number five.  Down the road we go to Brookfield to matchup their 1-3 record against Coach Yeagley and his troops!

IT’S GOOD TO HAVE DAV’

For South Range Senior, Ryan Davenport, he’s been known best for the last 2 years for being a defensive run stopper as a defensive end, and making incredible plays on offense when called upon.  He’s become accustomed to hearing “Who’s 45?” because he’s been surrounded by such talent during the course of his high school career.  No worries, though.

Davenport has been making a name for himself under the radar.  As of this writing, Davenport is the leading receiver on the Raiders midway through the 2018 season, and given the names in the receiving corps, that’s not just any random accolade.  That’s quite the accomplishment.

Make no mistake about it, “Dav” enjoys flying underneath the radar, but sees it as a personal challenge to chisel his name into the South Range archives, and his season is bigger, stronger, faster, and better than ever before.

LADY RAIDERS SLAY DRAGONS

CANFIELD, OH-  Raider Volleyball beat a 10-2 Niles team in 4 sets on Tuesday night (25-19 25-16 17-25 25-14)

In the first set the Raiders made a statement quick as they hit their way to 6 kills before surrendering an error. The Raiders had 14 kills in the first set and only 4 errors. That helped the Raiders take set 1 25-19.

The Raiders put another strong step forward in set 2 as Anna Primavera for the momentum rolling with 3 early kills. Abby George also started to make her presence felt in the middle. Jenna Barbessi gathered 5 kills in the set and the Raiders took it 25-16.

In the 3rd set the Raiders passing started to struggle a bit which lead to more attack errors. Almost half of the Raiders total attack errors came in set 3. Niles took advantage. They took set 3 17-25.

The Raiders refocused in the 4th set, as Abby George and Emily Irons both got a couple kills to swing the momentum back to the Raiders side. An Anna Primavera ace, along with strong serving getting Niles out of system gave the Raiders a big lead that they would never let go. The Raiders dominated set 4 25-14.

The Raiders hit .167 overall as a team. They had 9 different players record a kill. Jenna Barbessi lead the offense with 13 kills, she also had a dig. Anna Primavera with 9 kills and 7 digs. Abby George with 7 kills on the night. Drew Feren had 21 assists and 4 digs, also a kill. Emily Irons with 15 assists 7 kills and 6 digs. Mary Kuhns had 11 digs 5 aces and 2 kills.

Raiders will return to action Thursday as they travel to Lakeview who leads the NE8.

A big home win for the Raiders over rival Crestview in Week 3 gives the South Range team a big boost heading into game number four.  Marlington is in town to matchup their 2-1 record against Coach Yeagley and his troops!

HAVE NO FEAR: STEAR IS HERE!

What happens when you blend a truck-loving, hunting, hard-working, country boy with great hands and incredible speed with a high-powered offense and a shutdown defense?

You get South Range Senior- Josh Stear.

While he’s quiet in his demeanor, Stear leads by example on the field.  He’s the guy who wants the ball when the game is on the line, and when you see 20 on the field, don’t blink.  If you do, he’s going to beat you for six points without a doubt.

Coming off a great rivalry game against the Rebels last Friday, Josh Stear sits down with DJ Yokley to talk business (he wants to open his own) and pleasure in this week’s South Range Player Profile: HAVE NO FEAR: STEAR IS HERE!
