PRIMETIME IS JUST GETTING STARTED

It takes a lot to be a full rotation player in volleyball. You have to be reliable in every spot on the floor. For freshman Maria Primavera reliability has never been a problem. Starting as a freshman never phased Primavera, not even in the beginning of the season. She describes herself as a confident player that knew she belonged on the court. Having a sister that has done the same thing when she was a freshman helps. Maria’s sister Anna’s advice to her sister was simply “stay calm.” She attributes her ability to mentally shake things off and staying calm to her start in tennis. Now nearing the end of her freshman season Maria has been a major impact on the team. Maria is one of only 2 players to have 40+ kills and digs. She also is no slouch on the service line. That is the definition of being reliable in volleyball.

Anthony Hartwig caught up with Maria to talk about what its been like having such a big role as a freshman, playing with her sister, and much more. Learn all you need to know about the Raiders youngest star in the latest Player Profile Primetime is Just Getting Started.

THE BLACK KEYS TO VICTORY

The Poland volleyball senior class is full of all kinds of talent and personality. When it comes to Alexa Black, consistency is her forte. She has stepped up for her team in a big role as a setter. In a year where the role of setting has been asked upon a lot of people, Alexa has been a consistent pin in the offense. Black has 107 assists which is second on the team, and she also has committed 0 ball handling errors. Alexa had the advantage of having a sister as a senior while she was a freshman. Now a senior herself, Black is trying to emulate the leadership lessons that her sister passed down.

YSN’s Anthony Hartwig got a chance to talk with Alexa this week. They discuss her support system, some of her favorite memories, and much more. Hear it all on the latest Poland Volleyball Player Profile The Black Keys to Victory.

EAST PALESTINE, OH- Twins have a bond that can never be separated.  The only time Juli and Jami Jones are not together is on the volleyball court.  Both seniors at East Palestine, Jami is known for her specialty in serving and digs, while Juli is a utility player who is known for her defense and can play the entire floor on either side of the net.  Lucky for their competition, these two perfectly harmonize one another and substitute in and out for each other every game.

These two young ladies have been teammates their entire life, but certainly, compete with each other as well for competitive balance in the Jones house!

Two hearts with one heartbeat and the passion for the game is what you’ll find when our Tim Figley sits down with the Jones sisters in this week’s East Palestine Player Profile.

RAMBO: FIRST BLOCK

Crestview senior Sidney Rambo’s main job is to stop other team’s attackers from getting the ball across the net, and Sidney is good at her job. Rambo has become a wall at the net with her blocking ability. With blocks this strong it takes away other team’s ability to be aggressive. Rambo leads the team with 39 total blocks, including 11 solo blocks. Don’t think that you can sleep on her offense either, with 78 kills on the season Rambo is a consistent threat.

KEEP ON COPING

Webster’s Dictionary defines cope as a protective course or cap. Crestview volleyball senior Cassie Cope is just that for her team. The Rebels will definitely need Cassie’s energy to navigate some of the tough times a season will bring.

BACK TO THE PARTY

Last season Izzy Lamparty had to miss nearly all of the 2018 volleyball season with an injury. It was not easy for the athletic sophomore to not be out on the court competing. One year later and healthy again Izzy comes into her junior year with anticipation to be a vital member of the team. Her coaches admitted that the year off set her back as far as volleyball IQ, but as far as athleticism goes, Lamparty never missed a step. Now well into her first full season starting varsity Izzy has proven to be a quick study. It didn’t take long for her to learn the fine details of the Raiders scheme. She has quickly become one of the Raiders top offensive threats, and is a force to be reckoned with in the front row.

YSN’s Anthony Hartwig got a chance to chat with Izzy this week. They discuss dealing with her injury last season, what it’s like being coached by a record holding former Raider, and much more. Are you ready for the party? Check out the latest Raider Volleyball Player Profile Back To the Party.

ICE IN THE VEINS, FROST IN THE NAME

Poland Volleyball has a sizable senior class. With eight girls in the class of 2020, it can get easy to be lost in the shuffle. This is not the case with Emily Frost. As a setter she is involved with every offensive play on the court. The only player that always touches the ball, the setter is like a quarterback on the court. Emily Frost treasures being in this position being able to lead the offense on the floor. She has respect for her role on the floor and what that means for her team. To her, it is important to keep everyone up in times of struggle. Volleyball is all about momentum, and her energy and leadership on the court is an immediate boost to her team’s morale. Frost is arguably the most cerebral player on the court, as most setters are. She has to make split second decisions on where to set the ball based on where the defense is aligned. A master of her craft Frost is working hard to help her team reach their goals.

Anthony Hartwig caught up with Emily this week to talk about being the setter, future goals, and much more. Bundle up Poland fans this one is about to get frosty. Listen to the latest Bulldog Volleyball Player Profile, Ice in Her Veins, Frost in Her Name.

MAGEN PETTY IS RUNNIN’ DOWN A DREAM

As Mooney nears the end of their volleyball season, many of the players find themselves feeling nostalgic. Magen Petty, senior outside hitter for the Cardinals, feels like it was just yesterday that she started playing on that very court. A home court where Mooney is 6-5, and has won three straight. Petty is voice of confidence and leadership for this team.

Magen Petty embodies all the core traits Mooney instills in their students and athletes; intelligence, humility, grit and execution. She is part of an excellent group of young ladies who not only play for one another, but hold each other accountable. They expect to win each and every time they take the court, such is the mindset of a Cardinal Mooney athlete.

Magen took some time to talk with our Nate Keiper prior to their game against Oak Glen, an undefeated powerhouse from West Virginia. And so, in this episode of Player Profile, sponsored by M.P. Vivo, MAGEN PETTY IS RUNNIN’ DOWN A DREAM.

DOWN BY THE MARINA

Last season the Raider Volleyball program was plagued with injuries. This caused players like Marina Schneider to become versatile athletes for their team. Marina played just about every position you could play last year as the Raiders navigated their campaign. Now a junior, Marina has taken everything she learned last season and is using it to be a solid right side hitter in the Raiders lineup. Once a jack of all trades, now Marina is comfortable in a consistent spot. Marina also serves as a guiding light to the younger players who are experiencing varsity for the first time. She has been in their spot and knows all too well how hectic it can be. As an upperclassman leader, Marina brings her positive energy to every game and makes sure the new faces feel included.

Our own Anthony Hartwig sat down with Marina this week to talk about her year. They also discuss how much last year helped, personal goals for the season, and much more. Perk your ears up for the latest Raider Volleyball Player Profile Down By the Marina

C.J. CAN DIG IT

As Mooney prepares to enter tournament play, they’re looking to put together a win streak to finish the 2019 season strong. One of the unquestioned leaders of the Cardinal Mooney volleyball team, C.J. Sapp has put together an incredible body of work. Most recently, Sapp eclipsed the 1000 career digs mark, something she, nor many other Mooney fans have never seen done before.

A multi-sport athlete who leads by example, C.J. personifies everything that Cardinal Mooney wants in their students and athletes.

YSN’s Nate Keiper spoke with C.J. prior to the Cardinals game against Struthers to discuss this volleyball season, and Sapp’s goals for the rest of it.

You can bet that when it comes to volleyball, C.J. CAN DIG IT.
