BULLDOGS BREAK OUT AGAINST GIRARD

POLAND OH- Poland Seminary Lady Bulldogs improved to 14-6 on the season with a win against Northeast 8 Conference rival Girard by a score of 5-1.  This win boosts Poland’s conference record to 8-2 and places them in 2nd place behind South Range.

The Bulldogs jumped on the scoreboard first with 2 runs in the third inning and 3 runs in the fourth.  Poland’s offense collected 6 hits against the Indians pitcher Emily Rosace with senior 3rd baseman Emily Denney producing 3 hits including a solo home run to left field to get Poland on the scoreboard.  Sophia D’Angelo collected an RBI after hitting a single as well as Connie Cougras who earned an RBI.
Junior hurler Katie McDonald picked up her 14th win on the season allowing 3 hits with 9 strikeouts.
Poland and Girard resume action tomorrow at Girard to complete the season series.

MCDONALD’S GRAND SLAM CHANGES THE TIDE

CANFIELD) The Poland Lady Bulldogs pulled-out an upset 5-3 victory over 224 rival Canfield in a contest that saw great hitting from both sides.

Junior right fielder Meredith Trevis got Poland on the board with a double after sophomore first baseman Leanne Williams doubled off the left field wall.
Junior Katie McDonald gave up 8 hits and 2 earned runs over seven innings collecting her 12th victory of the year as Poland’s lead hurler.  She helped her cause in the top of the 6th with the Bulldogs up against the wall with their last 6 outs and down 3-1.  Senior center fielder Connie Cougras walked with one out, followed by singles from Mary Brant and Abbey Farber.  With the bases loaded, McDonald hit the second pitch she saw from Malena Toth and the line drive cleared the fence and all the bases, giving Poland a 5-3 advantage.   Emily Denney collected 2 hits including a double in the contest.
For Canfield, Bayann Jadallah had 3 hits including 2 doubles and an RBI, along with Isabella Kennedy who had 2 hits and an RBI.  The Bulldogs return to Northeast 8 Conference play tomorrow in Poland against Struthers.

HUBBARD SCREECHES PAST POLAND

HUBBARD, OH- Thursday, the Lady Eagles softball team came up with a hard-fought win over Poland by a score of 4-3.

Senior pitcher Haley Croyle went the distance, as she limited the Lady Bulldogs to three hits. Croyle struck out twelve Lady Bulldogs and walked two batters.
Croyle helped her own cause with a two-run double in the 5th inning as the Lady Eagles put together a three-run rally with two outs.
Grace Narkum had two of Hubbard’s five hits with a pair of singles. Narkum also scored two of Hubbard’s four runs.
Gillian Ryser and Emalee Warren each hit a single.
Hubbard improves to 10-2 on the season and 7-2 in conference play.

HUBBARD HANGS ON THIS TIME TO SPLIT WITH BULLDOGS

HUBBARD OH- Poland stayed in it until the end, but Hubbard pulled away late in a 4-3 victory on Thursday. The game was tied at one with Hubbard  batting in the bottom of the fifth when Haley Croyle singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.

The Eagles got on the board in the first inning. A sacrifice bunt by Lauren Kamorec scored one run.

Poland evened things up at one in the top of the fourth inning when Katie McDonald hit a solo homer.

Croyle earned the win for Hubbard. The pitcher surrendered three runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out 12.

McDonald took the loss for Poland. The righthander lasted six innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out six.

Poland tallied one home run on the day. McDonald put one out in the fourth inning.

McDonald led the Bulldogs with two hits in three at bats.

Grace Narkum went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Hubbard in hits.

POLAND COMES OUT ON TOP OF DOGFIGHT

CORTLAND OH- Poland was victorious in a key NE8 matchup on Tuesday night  over Lakeview, 5-3

Ryan Dilullo was the winning pitcher for Poland. Dilullo allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out nine.

Andrew Brown took the loss for Lakeview. The hurler allowed three hits and four runs over four and a third innings, striking out two.

Aiden Thompson led with two hits in four at bats. Matt Paparodis added a RBI to his day on a 1-3 day. He also drew a walk. Mike Gushura went 1-3 with 3 runs scored.

POLAND HAS TWO TIMES THE FUN IN SWEEP

GAME 1:

CORTLAND OH- In a Northeast 8 thriller, after trailing 7-3 the Poland Seminary Lady Bulldogs scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to pull off an upset of rival Lakeview.

The suspended game from Monday evening started in the top of the 4th with Poland ahead by 3-1 margin.  Lakeview scored 5 runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to pull ahead by four runs.

The bottom half of the seventh inning started with a groundout to the shortstop followed by a single from junior Poland catcher Sophia D’Angelo.  A popout to the first baseman really put Poland’s back against the wall with two outs.  Senior Emily Denney singled, followed by another from senior center fielder Connie Cougras and shortstop Mary Brant.  Then senior second baseman Abby Farber doubled bringing the score to 7-6 Lakeview.  Lakeview intentionally walked Katie McDonald and on the first pitch, sophomore first baseman Leanne Williams hit a walk-off double bringing in the tying and go-ahead run to the plate for the Bulldogs.

Lakeview pounded 13 hits in the contest including a home run and double by Hallie Capan, and Kylie Imes collecting 3 hits including a double.

GAME 2:

In the nightcap, Poland’s offense exploded for 14 runs off 9 hits and gave Katie McDonald the shutout on the mound in a 14-0 victory. The win gave Poland the double header sweep.

Katie McDonald helped her cause with 2 hits including a double along with Emily Denney who collected 2 hits with a double.  McDonald tallied 7 strikeouts in the contest scattering only 3 hits.
