SALEM FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH RON JOHNSON (EP 5)

After a tough weather week in the Valley, The Quakers were forced to call an audible and play on Saturday.  Coach Johnson isn’t one to make excuses and toughed things out with his troops short-handed in week five.  The Quakers came up short, but not for lack of effort.

However, another week presents itself, and the Quakers look to get back to full strength and home cooking doesn’t hurt as the Quakes look to grab the oars in Reilly Stadium to take on Marlington.

GONE CAMPING

The Junior Tailback has taken a huge step forward into the Salem spotlight and arguably has had the biggest shoes to fill from a leadership perspective.  However, Cade Campolito has taken the challenge in stride and continues to make plays for Coach RonJohn on and off the field.

As the Junior continues to find his role expand, he loves making the big plays on Friday night.

Campolito embraces the challenge and the spotlight.  The multi-sport star sits down with YSN’s Jarrod Niederhiser sits down with the Quaker standout, Cade Campolito in this week’s Salem Player Profile: GONE CAMPING

LEHWALD THE LEADER

The Salem Quakers are off and running in the 2018 campaign, and they have everybody in red and black with their hands on the oar.  At the front of the ship is Salem Senior Josh Lehwald, who from both sides of the football are leaving opponents wondering just “how good” is number 9?

The answer: That Good.

Humble as it gets, Lehwald transforms himself into a statistical, ball-hungry monster on the football field.  One of the qualities that will echo in Quakerville after his days are done?  His leadership.

Our Jarrod Niederhiser sits down with Salem’s Standout Receiver, Josh Lehwald to discuss the season so far, and what is still yet to come.  This week’s Salem Player Profile is: LEHWALD THE LEADER

NO REST FOR WEINGART

In football, it’s more about the win-loss column than it is the names in the box score.  For Salem Senior Luke Weingart, his production has not taken away from the fact that the Quakers are undefeated so far in 2018.

A total team player, Weingart is the type of player for the Quakers that will do whatever is asked of him in order to help his team succeed.  It just so happens that Weingart’s number was called over and again last Friday against East Liverpool, and when 10 was called, Weingart answered in a big way.

YSN’s Jarrod Niederhiser sat down with the Salem Senior to discuss the difference between last year and this current campaign, as well as much more.

This week’s Salem Player Profile is: NO REST FOR WEINGART

CARROLLTON HEAD COACH PHIL MAURO TALKS ABOUT THE MATCHUP AGAINST SALEM:

SARGE IS IN CHARGE

One look at Salem Senior Robbie Sarginger, and you know he’s all business.

Thus far he’s helped the Quakers establish a 3-0 record to start their 2018 campaign.  The issue is, this team, this class, and this city are not content with small victories.  They want to make history.

Sarginger is helping out in any capacity he can to help break through into new territory for Salem.

Our Jarrod Niederheiser sat down with the Senior Salem Standout last week, and talks with Robbie about all aspects of football, and what his future looks like.

SALEM OUTLASTS LIVERPOOL

SALEM, OH- The Salem Quakers continued their winning ways with a 28-14 win of the Potters of East Liverpool on Friday night at Reilly Stadium. The Quakers were able to capitalize off of Potter miscues and finish drives on their way to their 3rd straight victory.

The Quakers opened the scoring in the 1st quarter with a 65-yard touchdown strike from Turner Johnson to Josh Lehwald, and with the 2 point conversion took an 8-0 lead. The Potters answered back on special teams when Nick Woodyard brought back a punt 53 yards for a score to pull East Liverpool within one at 8-7. After a 2nd quarter interception by Niko Walter, the Quakers struck again through the air from 34 yards out from Johnson to Luke Weingart making the halftime score 14-7 in favor of the Quakers.

The Quakers looked to get some breathing room when Cade Campolito scampered 21 yards for a score to give Salem a 20-7 lead and what seemed to be some breathing room. The Potters would not go quietly when sophomore Nate Davis came off the bench in the 4th quarter to hit Woodyard on a 23-yard touchdown strike to cut their deficit to 20-14. Needing to swing the momentum, Niko Walter took matters into his own hands and answered back right away with an 80-yard kick return to put the Quakers in great field position. Turner Johnson would find Luke Weingart again, this time from 20 yards out, and with the 2 point conversion, took a 28-14 lead and that’s where things would end up.

Salem moves to 3-0 on the season and opens EBC play when they host Carrollton at Reilly Stadium. Tune into YSNlive.com/Salem for the call, pregame starts at 6:30, kickoff at 7:00.
