MIKLANDRIC MAKES SOME WAVES

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Ursuline is a softball program that is loaded with talent. You’d be hard pressed to find a name that doesn’t excel at the sport. Behind the dish for the Irish is one of the better catchers you’ll find in the district. Maddie Miklandric takes a ton of pride in her defense as a catcher. Because of that, she has become what you might call a brick wall at the backstop.

Miklandric has always been a good framer. She didn’t take long to pick up the skill of stealing some strikes from time to time. All though if you ask her it wouldn’t be theft at all. This season, Maddie wanted to improve her blocking ability. With a pitching staff as good as the Irish, Miklandric wanted to be trustworthy for anyone that stepped in the circle. Another key part to being a catcher is building a strong chemistry with the pitchers. You can check that off of Maddie’s list. She has a bond with the arms of the Ursuline bullpen that rivals the best in the business.

Miklandric caught up with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig this week to discuss her final season in Ursuline. They also talk about her plans for the future, her competitive drive, and so much more. Make the right choice by checking out the latest Ursuline softball player profile.

TURNING THE PAIGE

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Ursyline softball has been a fixture on the local scene in the last couple years. However, last season their promising season fell just short. It left a hunger and drive in everyone’s stomach that is involved in the program. That’s including senior Paige Ogden who comes into her final season with the Irish looking to win some hardware.

Paige is the definition of a pitcher who can take. Her pitches have dangerous movement. The spin rate for her balls have to be off the charts.  The way her pitches fall off the table really leaves the opposing hitters baffled.  Then when she steps to the plate, her bat is one of the most feared not just in division 3, but in the whole area.  She had a stretch this season where she hit 5 home runs in 2 days. Three of those came in one game.

Ogden leads the team in batting average with a .500 clip. She has hit 9 home runs on the year with 31 RBI.  She Carrie’s an eye popping OPS of 1.613.  In the circle she leads the team in innings pitched with 71.2.  She has an ERA of 1.86.  She has struck out 122 batters while only walking 22.

Ogden will continue her softball career at the next level at Mount Vernon. She has all the confidence in the world in being able to succeed at the next level.

Ogden was able to catch up with Anthony Hartwig this week to talk about her senior season and the experience with the Irish. They also talk about her competitive drive, how hungry the team is to win, and much more. Catch some luck with the latest Ursuline softball player profile.

THERES A NEW BRADY GOING TO FLORIDA

YOUNGSTOWN OH- When you are an athlete and your name carries weight in a school, it is a direct reflection of, not only the accomplishments on the field, but how you carry yourself off of it as well. You need focus, determination and work ethic are a must to maintain that academic and athletic balance. These are the kids that we call “gifted athletes.” However, when you do all that in a historic school like Ursuline High School, we just call you “Brady Shannon.”

A three sport athlete that looks like he finds success with ease, no matter what the sport is he tries to pick up. So much so that the decision for college was not about IF he was going, but rather where? And what sport? Well he had that decision made before his senior baseball season, one that he made towards the tail end of the 2021 football season. A season in which Shannon as the quarterback led The Irish to The State Championship!

In this 2022 baseball season, Shannon has an On Base Percentage (OBP) of over .500 all while leading his team in home runs (2)! Birds are known for their feathers that we get to admire before they fly south for the winter. While Brady has his hair, we all admire the play of Ursuline senior Brady Shannon before he flies south for the winner as a UCF (University of Central Florida) commit!

Anthony and Ty catch up with Shannon in this EXCLUSIVE interview, found only on YSN.
