YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The 2023 Youngstown State baseball season is right around the corner as the Penguins migrate down to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to take on Wake Forest and Illinois in a four game split series. The Penguins look to keep the momentum rolling after reaching 20 wins in back-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022 for the first time since 2006.
The Penguins return a lot of talent offensively in 2023, starting with Poland Bulldogs graduate Braeden O’shaughnesy. Last season he was named to the First-Team All-Horizon League team after leading the team in batting average at .357, with 79 hits and 41 RBI’s. On the pitching side, fifth year senior Travis Perry will be the ace, after the Penguins lost three starters from a year ago. Perry has started 25 times throughout his career, and has also made 42 appearances.
Head Coach Dan Bertolini talks about the new faces you will see on the diamond in 2023, along with the importance of recruiting locally in the Youngstown area. The Penguins will take on Illinois tomorrow at noon, and then follow that up with a 4 o’clock first pitch against number 6 nationally ranked Wake Forest. We will have live audio for the entire series on YSNLive.com.
