TIGERS SINK THEIR TEETH INTO SEASON’S FIRST WIN

The Howland Tigers opened their season with a 10-6 win over a strong Columbiana team on Thursday night.

Alexia Spangler led the Tigers to victory on the rubber. The pitcher went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out four and walking zero. Brooke Tatar threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Tatar recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for the Tigers. Howland Tigers had 13 hits in the game. Maddie Hufford, Brooke Tatar, Alexia Spangler, and Zoe King each managed multiple hits for Howland. Tatar and Hufford each collected three hits to lead the Tigers.

Caitlynn Pleska went 2-4 for the Clippers with 2 runs scored. Maryn Hepler, and Julia Rapp both also had multiple hits. Audrey Smith, and Cameron Perkins each recorded a RBI.

Pleska got the start in the circle for Columbiana, she went 6.0 IP, and striking out 8. 8 of the Tigers runs were charged to her.

The Tigers are on the road Saturday to face Keystone and Elyria Catholic.
