TIGERS SWEEP SERIES AGAINST CHAMPION

WARREN, OH- The Champion Flashes couldn’t quite hold off Newton Falls, dropping the game 5-2 on Tuesday at Champion High School.

Newton Falls kicked off the scoring frenzy in the fourth inning. Phillips sparked the rally with an RBI single, followed by Kendall who knocked in two more. Vargo kept the momentum going with a groundout that brought in another run, and Huff capped off the inning with a double that plated yet another, putting Newton Falls solidly in the driver’s seat.

On the mound, Huff was the man of the hour for Newton Falls, handling the Flashes’ lineup with ease. Over a full seven innings, he gave up just two runs on six hits while fanning seven and issuing seven walks. His performance was pivotal in securing the win.

Champion’s Bradey Quinby, unfortunately, found himself on the other end of the decision. He lasted over six innings, where he surrendered five runs (only two earned) and struck out five, but it wasn’t enough to stave off the loss.

At the plate, Carson Fife was the standout for Champion, going 3-for-4 and trying to spark a rally. Both Fife and Quinby chipped in with an RBI each, showing some resistance despite the tough day.

The Flashes did show some discipline, working seven walks in the game. Zack Morris and Dylan Howell each took two free passes, showcasing their patience at the dish.

For Newton Falls, the offense was spread out. Kendall, Vargo, and Huff each brought in runs, with Gazda leading the way with two hits. Chitwood added a bit of excitement on the bases, swiping two bags.

Looking ahead, Champion has to shake off this loss quickly as they gear up to face Geneva this Thursday. Meanwhile, Newton Falls will ride their momentum into their next matchup against Liberty on the same day.
