TOTH’S NO HITTER HIGHLIGHTS CANFIELD TWIN BILL SWEEP

AKRON OH- Malena Toth struck out 14 batters as the righty led Canfield past Geneva 11-0 on Friday at Firestone Stadium. Toth allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking two completing her first no hitter of the season.

Canfield got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Faith Morell hit a sacrifice fly, and Toth singled, each scoring one run.

Canfield scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. Jessica Shugart singled, scoring two runs, Morell tripled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run.

The Cardinals added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Alexis Johnson tripled, and Jenna Triver walked, each scoring one run.

Morell provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Canfield with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Triveri, Marina Koenig, Toth, Johnson, Morell, and Shugart each collected one hit. Canfield had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Triveri and Macey Kalina led the team with two free passes each.

The Cardinals didn’t commit a single error in the field. Leah Figueroa had the most chances in the field with 16.

GAME 2

Marina Koenig collected three hits in three at bats, as Canfield defeated Geneva 12-0 on Friday at Firestone Stadium. Koenig doubled in the first inning, doubled in the second inning, and doubled in the third inning.

Canfield got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Faith Morell grounded out, Koenig doubled, and Leah Figueroa singled, each scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Sydney Lutz singled, Koenig doubled, Figueroa tripled, and Caylee Ortiz singled, each scoring one run.

The Cardinals scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the third inning. Jenna Triveri singled, scoring one run, Morell singled, scoring two runs, Koenig doubled, scoring one run, and Figueroa doubled, scoring one run.

Ortiz led things off in the circle for Canfield. They gave up four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking none.

Canfield amassed 16 hits in the game. Triveri, Koenig, and Figueroa each collected three hits. Lutz and Ortiz each collected multiple hits. Canfield didn’t commit a single error in the field. Koenig had the most chances in the field with five.
