JUST ANOTHER WINNING DAY FOR THE CARDINALS

AKRON OH- Mooney Girls Lacrosse continued their impressive season with a dominant 14-5 victory over Akron St. Vincent St. Mary, improving their record to an impressive 12-3. And it was the sophomore stars who stole the show, leading the charge with remarkable performances all around.

Natalie Blasko led the team’s offensive onslaught, showcasing her scoring prowess with 5 goals and dishing out 1 assist while dominating the draw controls with 8 wins. Frankie Cassese wasn’t far behind, contributing 3 goals, 5 draw controls, 3 ground balls, and causing 3 turnovers on defense. Ella Szalay added to the scoring with 2 goals and 2 assists, while also hustling for 5 ground balls. Molly Simons chipped in with 2 goals and 1 assist, while Sophia Rotunno rounded out the scoring with 2 goals and hauled in 6 ground balls.

The defense was equally impressive, causing 13 turnovers throughout the game, stifling Akron St. Vincent St. Mary’s offense at every opportunity. Alyssa Ray held strong in goal, making 7 crucial saves to keep the opposition at bay.

With this commanding win under their belts, Mooney looks ahead to their next challenge as they prepare to host NDCL on Tuesday for a senior night showdown at 6:30. With their sophomore stars leading the charge, Mooney is poised for continued success as they march towards the postseason.

GREENAWAY NAMED BOWLER OF THE YEAR

BOARDMAN OH- The OHSBCA Board of Directors has selected Boardman junior Kaitlyn Greenaway as the 2023-2024 Ohio High School Division 1 Bowler of the Year. Greenaway is the first athlete in Boardman’s school history to earn this award. This makes Greenaway the sectional champion, individual state champion, team state champion and Ohio bowler of the year.  She was voted to first team all Northeast District as well and was an Academic All-Ohioan this year.  Greenaway reached all milestones this season while maintaining a 207 average.

MOONEY KEEPS THE WILDCATS QUIET

STRUTHERS OH- Mooney’s baseball squad brought their A-game on Saturday afternoon, blanking Struthers in a commanding 4-0 victory that showcased their stellar defense.

While the bats didn’t explode, Mooney’s offense did enough to secure the win. Matt Kay led the charge, going 2 for 3 at the plate and driving in a crucial run. Trent Litman and Ben Oddis each contributed with an RBI, while Gabe Saunders reached base and scored a run to add to the offensive effort.

But it was Mooney’s pitching that stole the show. Ben Oddis took the mound and dominated Struthers for the entire game. Over seven innings, he allowed just two hits and didn’t give up a single run while striking out an impressive eight batters. It was a masterclass in pitching, keeping Struthers’ hitters guessing and unable to generate any offense.
