BULLDOGS BITE DOESN’T BREAK BOARDMAN

POLAND, OH- In an exciting showdown at the annual “The United Way Classic,” the Boardman Spartans hit the road down Route 224 to face off against the Poland Bulldogs. In a hard-fought and physical contest, the Spartans emerged victorious, clinching their third consecutive win of the season with a final score of 44-39.

Nico Holzschuh led the charge for the Spartans, contributing 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Noah Ziak added 9 points and grabbed 3 rebounds, showcasing his well-rounded skills on the court. Jeffrey Markovitch made his presence felt with 7 points, including a crucial 3-pointer, and a flawless 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line, including two pivotal free throws late in the fourth quarter.

Despite battling foul trouble, Terrell McDowell had a strong start with 5 points in the first quarter and pulled down 5 rebounds. Grayson Eicher faced off against Poland’s size inside, contributing 4 points and securing 5 rebounds. Kaden Mayhew stepped up with 4 crucial points in the fourth quarter, while Sullivan Smith added to the scoring with a significant corner 3-pointer in the final quarter.

Zach Haus significantly impacted both ends of the floor, tallying 4 steals and 7 deflections. Vince Butto and Jayse Varely also played pivotal roles in contributing to the team’s victory.

For Poland, Carmine Tukalo netted 19, and Cole Fulton finished with 9 for the Bulldogs.

With this hard-fought win, the Boardman Spartans maintain an impressive undefeated record of 3-0 on the young season. The team is now set to face the Golden Bears of East High in Youngstown on Tuesday, looking to build on their early success and continue their winning streak.
