LADY SPARTANS CONQUER POLAND

POLAND, OH- In a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, the Boardman girls’ basketball team claimed a decisive 59-37 victory on the road against the formidable Poland Bulldogs. The Spartans took control early, establishing a 15-6 lead in the first quarter, setting the tone for a game where they never trailed.

Despite Poland narrowing the gap to 7 points in the third quarter, the Spartans unleashed a spectacular 19-2 run to close the quarter, solidifying their dominance. The fourth quarter saw all 14 players from Boardman contributing to a comprehensive team effort.

Senior Mackenzie Riccitelli led the charge with an outstanding performance, pouring in a game-high 23 points, accompanied by 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Sam Duble showcased her sharpshooting prowess once again, finishing with an impressive 19 points, primarily from beyond the arc. Sarah Bero demonstrated her dominance on the glass, finishing with 7 points.

Ava Freeborough contributed 4 points and added 3 steals to the team’s defensive efforts, while M.C. Werth pitched in with 2 points and led in steals with 6. Mikayla Rivera and Tori Strines each added 2 points to the scoreboard.

The entire roster played a crucial role in the fourth quarter, with Jocelynn Torres, Janessa Prisby, Amira Mousa, Lily Ison, Emma Terlesky, Ava Gaps, and Olivia Combis all contributing valuable minutes to close out the team win.

The game was part of the United Way’s 2023 Holiday Classic, and the girls felt honored to be part of such a significant event. With this victory, the Lady Spartans improve to an impressive 3-1 on the young season, while Poland drops to 2-2. The next challenge for the Lady Spartans awaits as they face the Dukes of Marlington next Saturday.
