BULLDOGS SNATCH A VICTORY AWAY FROM CANFIELD

By Matt Maher

POLAND OH- WHAT. A. NIGHT. The Poland Bulldogs pulled off one of the greatest comebacks you’ll see this season, defeating Canfield by the final score of 2-1! The game started off with Canfield controlling the ball and with under 10 minutes played The Cardinals Forward, Andrew Battaglia, would put the first goal in the back of the net beating goalkeeper Michael Daley for Poland.

There was much back and forth throughout the last 30 minutes or so with Canfield controlling play for most of it and getting some quality shots off but not getting any past Daley as the Poland goalkeeper would be locked in for the remainder of the game.

The second half started off with more back and forth between the two sides but this time Poland started to show an edge and went after the ball more aggressivly resulting in them having possession for most of the game and creating more chances and finally testing Canfield goalkeeper Dominic Gizzi.

The Bulldogs’ new found energy finally paid off with under five minutes to go in the match Junior Jacob Hayes would find himself on the rush with two cardinals on his side. With the great pressure being shown by the Canfield defense Hayes finally opted to take his shot and boy did he, the Bulldogs would pull even late in the match setting up an exhilarating final four minutes.

The Bulldogs continued to show pressure but seemed to slip back into their first half mentality which made them look content with a draw but with 25 seconds remaining in the game Junior bench player number six would find himself in front of the net and with a quick decision took his shot and sealed the deal for his team elevating them to a 2-1 comeback win!

Canfield is back in action next Tuesday when they host Cardinal Mooney at 7PM and Poland will hit the road to play Austintown Fitch on Thursday with a 7:15PM scheduled start time.
