It came down to the last play, but Salem was on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to Boardman on Tuesday. The game was tied at five with Boardman batting in the bottom of the seventh when Anthony Butto singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

The Quakers lost despite out-hitting Boardman eight to seven.

Boardman captured the lead in the second inning when Nate Fleming doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Jimmy Whippo led the Boardman to victory on the pitcher’s mound. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on three hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one.

Lane Rhodes took the loss for Salem. The pitcher allowed five hits and five runs over six and a third innings, striking out ten.

Guy Young started the game for Boardman. Young lasted five and a third innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out six

Salem totaled eight hits. Brock Young and Darius Beck all managed multiple hits. Beck and Young each collected two hits to lead.

Boardman racked up seven hits on the day. Butto and Stephen Conti each collected multiple hits.
